How far in advance of your green card with  the 1 year extension letter expiring can you get an I-551 stamp? I searched the forums and it seems like the field offices are hesitant to stamp passports more than a 2-3 weeks before the expiration of the green card. Anyone who recently got a stamp shed some light?

Our field office is Boston & the green card with extension letter expires June 20, 2017. Do you think we could get the stamp  at the beginning of May? We're moving and want to get the stamp before we move away from a convenient field office.

You can only get the stamp within 30 days of the expiration of your extension (whether that's the GC date or the letter date depends on the zodiac sign of the person you ask and the current phase of the moon). I've had mostly negative experiences with the Boston office, they refused my stamp more than 30 days before the expiration of the letter (I had international travel scheduled) so I don't think you'll have much luck, but maybe if you explain your story it might help.

You're hilarious! ? But thank you for sharing your experience. 30 days it is then. Luckily when you procrastinate like me the expiration date of the letter & green card are just 10 days apart, so the zodiac signs might just align and form a beam of light to an unicorn ?
