Congratulations on your approval and big kudos to your fiance for keeping it together through what sounds to me like one of the weirdest interviews for a K1 visa I've ever heard of

I'm not even sure how legal is for them to make you show them your phone, because that kind of conflicts with your privacy rights. I mean, of course we show them emails and texts and chats and so on, but we always have the right to select what we want them to see. Not to mention in most Embassies you are not allowed to take your phone with you inside.

Just seems weird, yep, but I guess when you enter this process you know you are exposed to their full scrutiny.

Anyway... CONGRATS! :jest:

Yeah, my fiance was totally thrown for a loop but he held his head together and stood his ground.  I'm really proud of him for making it through that because I don't know how I would have handled it.

Luckily all of our conversations lately have been G/PG rated and we hadn't had any disagreements. :) My fiance said that the CO was reading some of it out loud and laughed at a part where I joked with my fiance about obeying whatever he says :D  I thought it was odd too when he asked for the cell phone, especially because I had provided about 13 photos of us together and about 20 pages of chat transcripts over a year and a half period in the initial application.  Part of me believes that showing the cell phone and our recent conversations is what turned it from a denial to an approval and I'm so glad he had his cell phone, the battery wasn't dead, and the CO could see the humor we share together.

And, thanks, I'm certainly feeling a sense of relief and happiness right now.  My face is hurting from all the smiling I am doing :D

The short version:  Visa APPROVED!!!

The long version:  My fiance had some trouble reaching the embassy today but made it just in time.  He had no problem getting checked in and was waiting for his number to be called.  They called his number after about 10 minutes and he went to the first window where they asked for his paperwork and then tried to say that they couldn't find the DS160.  He sent me a message (yay technology!) and I told him to show them the confirmation page.  By the time he pulled it out, they had somehow found the DS160 and then handed him the CD with the chest X-Ray on it...this should have been my first sign that things were going to go a little wonky for him.

He went and sat back down and waited for his number to be called again.  He ended up waiting about 45 minutes when his number was called for the second window and interview.  This is where things started to go off script.  At first the CO started going through the standard questions for London (When did you meet?  How many times have you met?  What does he do for a living?) and then the interview jumped the shark.  The CO started asking questions about why my parents divorced, why my fiance's parents separated, what year the city I live in was founded, how many computers do I work on in a day, exactly how many people work at my company, etc. etc.  My fiance said that these questions were totally random and all over the place in no particular order, nothing like we've seen mentioned for London, and didn't seem like the typical interview that was been described in other London reviews.  My fiance held his ground, answered when he could, said he didn't know when he didn't know, and kept trying to focus the CO on us and our relationship very politely.  The CO then asked how we stay in touch and my fiance said Skype, Viber, and others, and then the CO asked to see his cell phone and read through the last several days of our conversations.  I think this was the turning point in the interview back to normal because the CO saw how we joked around, what we talked about, and even laughed at some of the things we had said to each other back and forth.  After a few more questions with the interview going on for about 20 minutes at this point, the CO said "okay, well, I am going to go ahead and approve you and you should have your passport back in about 2 weeks".  My fiance then thanked him, left the embassy, immediately called me and we kept having ####### moments about all the questions he was asked.  There were more that I can't even remember right now that I was like "really, he asked that?!?" and when I speak more with my fiance later I'll see if he can jog my memory on those.

Of course I had to wait for my fiance to recount the whole interview and after he kept telling me more and more I finally stopped him and said "So, are you approved?!?" and he said yes and then kept going on about the CO and all the random questions.

I realize that this is definitely not the typical interview situation, probably because my fiance is not a UK citizen but has the right to live and work there as a citizen of another EU country, but I wanted to let everyone know who still has their interview coming up to be prepared for anything.  Be polite but hold your ground and focus on the two of you and your story, not what year a city was founded :D

Wooooo congratulations!!! So happy for you :D

Thanks!  I just got some more questions that the CO asked my fiancé:

"How big is his apartment?  How many rooms does it have?  How many restrooms?  Is the apartment in a nice neighborhood?  What are his neighbors like?"

My fiancé has not been to the USA yet and made this clear to the CO but he still wanted the answer to these questions and more.  Such an odd interview!

Looks like we are one of the last here still waiting for an approval. Congrats to all of those that have already moved on.  Hoping we hear something soon.

Me too.....I called and talked to a tier two officer, absolutely no help, he said my case had not been assigned to adjudication.... so more crying, depression  and hurry up and wait......my only solace is that it looks like they are getting to the end of Feb.

I started calling after a week. And received the case number in 2.5 weeks after it was received at NVC....

Everyone I talked to was friendly.
