Hello,

My fiancé and I have submitted and since then I thought I was at high chance to get rejected if I tried coming to the US. Was your fiancé visiting you in the US and did he have any trouble getting in given he has an immigration request pending?

Thank you,

PR

Yeah I live in the US and he flew into my city to stay with me for his visit. He got an ESTA approved before coming, and was only asked a couple simple, standard questions and was through customs in just a few minutes. I think the officer said something like "you know you'd better not get married while you're here for the visit" but it sounded like everyone was friendly and trusting. Just check if you need to have some kind of temporary travel visa, and you should have no issues. As long as you're not overstating your welcome as a visitor, I don't think there will be a problem. Plus, it is a chance to get more, newer evidence for proof of your ongoing relationship after the initial application was sent in.

Hope that helps. :)

Thank you very much! I still do not know if I want to take the chance though. A friend of mine who has taken another route got rejected at the boarder so I might just wait, and hope it goes faster!

Hello,

Just curious, what happen when they reject it for those reasons? When you send it back do you need to pay the fee again?

So sorry for the loss of time and good luck!

I am still in the process myself, we had a lawyer for this first portion, but when we get married we are thinking about going without (it gets expensive) and well I am freaking out about making a mistake and paying twice.

Thank you,

PR

Hi there!

No, I didn't need to pay the fee again. When they returned my packet the check was included. They only asked that I sign my name on the form and return everything they sent. The papers were all stacked together and stapled at the top and they had them in a large plastic ziplock bag. My check was cashed the day after my packet arrived back to Dallas. I decided to do everything on my own. I considered a lawyer at first but this website is such a great resource to have so I am very comfortable doing it on my own. The lost time stings a little. That one little mistake set me back 3 weeks but it is what it is :/

thank you and good luck to you too! :)

Im not sure what is embassy specific (In canada you can download a checklist), but I ordered my long form birth certificate, am making sure my vaccines are up to date, made photocopies of my biographic passport page and birth certificate.  I am going to get my police record done once I get my NOA2 I think since in Canada you get it quite quick. I also went online and practice filled out my DS-160 to make sure I have all the info required.  It saves there for a month but I think I read you could save it to your computer (I didn't try yet).  You can also download the form for support and get an idea of what is needed for that (although wait for NOA2 to start gathering).  I am going to have a small sample of.evodence for my relationship, but apparently it is very rarely asked for in Canada.

Where can I find this checklist?

Thanks!

At least that is good new! I will probably not go for a lawyer for the second part! It is reassuring. The first part I really did not have time with school, but the second part is not as critical I feel as I will already be with my loved one.

is there an difference in processing times for each Country ? or they look at when we sent 129f  ( Jamaica to USA)

The processing for the petition itself is the same for all countries as that all happens in US ... after it reaches the embassy it depends on the processing time of the countries
