Sounds like he was trying to use a tourist visa to immigrate. Probably thought once he had feet on US soil he could gain status. Those days are over. You being in Canada will not help him.

Also, the continued attempts of refugee and asylum claims is going to work against him.

Actually wet foot dry foot was for Cubans that showed up at the border with NO visa.  It got its name from the fact if a boat person had a foot on soil they could get to stay. and if they did not they got turned back.   It would not apply to someone that was allowed into the country via a valid visa.  It sounds like he used the status in the US to try the same sort of thing at the US/Canadian border and Canada didn't want to play and the US didn't want him lose in the US.  Most likely his visa will be cancelled and he will be sent back.  The correct path would have been some sort of visa for Canada but it may be too late now

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The obvious route would be for you to sponsor him to immigrate to Canada, as this site deals with US Immigration this is not the best place.

In the meantime he needs to find out how quickly he can get sent home to minimise his time in Detention. Obviously his US visa is toast and as he is both extremely unlikely to obtain another US visa and seemingly does not need one there is little point going there..

He got arrested at the USA border after he apply for Canadian refuge and they said no to him.

In that case, crossing over from Canada, the "wet foot / dry foot" wouldn't have applied anyway, even if the policy still was in effect.

I would have stayed in Canada and not tempted fate.

Best wishes to your friend.

To help him understand his options better. take some time (you and him) to learn more about asylum. It is not an easy process and can not only take a long time but is also difficult to obtain.

The current immigration climate that is going on with the current administration is going to make things even more uncertain.

Can see that, that situation is very hard and I suffer a lot. Going to USA every week to see him. Because of many mistakes.the judge doesn't have time to listen all story what happens because he is busy with other cases. It's sad because this is his opportunity to fight for his status in USA.

What does his lawyer say?

What is the basis of his asylum claim?

I have no idea what ignoring politic means

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
