Hey everyone, my ex fiancé and I had our papers approved to get married by the end of April but last month, he decided to end our relationship....he's american and im canadian. I aim to go to the US in early April but for other purposes, I never told customs that I had a fiancé what so ever. This was the first time I ever filed for a K1 visa.

Where im trying to get is, since there was no marriage and all, in the future, if I meet someone from the US and that I wanna file K1 visa again, will I get consequences for the process although its my ex that terminated the relationship? Im not a law breaker and would never overstay in the US, cant afford either way haha

if anyone can clear me out on that id appreciate it :)

Hi there, If later you meet someone and decide to start the process anew, I can guarantee you that your prior k1-visa will be brought-up. It doesn't mean that you will be denied the new k1-visa, but you should be prepared and ready to explain what happened and answer any questions about why you didn't pursue the "old approved" k1 visa. What might also be helpful, is if you ex-fiance can provide you with an affidavit explaining why he ended the relationship (i.e. financial hardships, cultural differences ,etc)...Assuming of course that you've ended your relationship "peacefully"  and that you're still friends, for example... Good Luck!

Another important factor, will be the time elapsed between the old k1 and the new one (to be)...If it's too close, they may think (and maybe rightly so) that you just want to get in to the States at any cost and with anyone! Something to keep in mind... Bonne Chance! :)

Thank you for your help! Yeah it didnt exactly end peacefully, a lot of arguing was involved. We dont talk to each other anymore, but I sent him a message asking for that letter, hoping he'll reply.

Is the visa in your passport already? Have the CBP cancel the visa when you enter next if you are within the time frame it was valid for.  Or you can contact Montreal about cancelling it as well.

There will be extra scrutiny but that does not mean you will never be able to obtain another K-1 in the future. If it looks to a consulate officer that you are shopping around for US fiances in order to get to the US, then there will be problems. The fact that you asked this question even before your current K-1 is withdrawn raises that suspicion even though it was your ex who ended the relationship. Also, you stated that you never told CBP that you had a fiance when crossing the border and I will remind you to never lie to them under any circumstances if asked about any past petitions filed on your behalf. Lying is misrepresentation and could result in a ban if caught.

I didnt ask this question for no reason and would never lie. I was with my ex for 5 years, but it wasnt an honest relationship as he lied to me so much. I started the thread because a friend from the US and I have gotten closer, I was just being curious. Im not trying to be desperate to come live in the US.
