It's for travel and for work, is what I was told. I got my stamp done earlier this week... I don't plan to travel until the summer, but during the time my 2 year GC expires, I will have just given birth so I'm not going to be able to head out to an infopass appointment.

They gave me a letter along with a stamp in my passport (I kept my GC) that says I'm able to travel and work. I recall when I had my EAD/AP and was waiting for my GC and it was close to expiring, that my HR hounded me daily to update it. Luckily my GC came in right before it expired, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to continue work. I'm not sure whether that would be the same now for a GC or if that was the case because it was a EAD/AP instead? I own my own business now so I'm not having to update those documents for HR.

Thats good that you dont have to report to HR and you have your own business, as I see you have filed with CSC:(

Hey all

i am so confused. Are we supposed to get our I551 stamp a couple weeks before the date on the extension letter or the date of the GC?  I have an appt on Friday but I was told by 2 USCIS officers that it’s too early as my GC expires the end of March. then 1 officer said I need to go now and not chance it. So now I am confused. Do I reschedule the appt to the end of February even though my letter is dated February 18?

I wish the officers would get on the same page and give out clear answers.

Thanks in advance!!

My GC expires in May. I always do paperwork as soon as the window opens up. However, like you I was confused too because I wasn't sure if I needed to go base on the letter date (February) or my GC expiration date. I booked the appointment and went just to be safe.

At first the agent didn't want to do it because they thought it was too early... but I'm pregnant and during the time I'm suppose to come in, I'll be giving birth or have just given birth. The officer was kind and gave me the stamp and sent me off. I was in and out within an hour.

Its nice when the officers are kind, however it seems they weren't too nice with the OP and there is absolutely need for it.  I wouldn't let them speak to me unkindly, I would lodge an immediate complaint, but that's me.

Oh definitely! I got lucky with this one... and it wasn't too busy too, which is unusual here!

Well on a different forum there was one person who filed for CSC January 17 and received an RFE, so you never know. If they are working on Sept in Nov, then surely they are working on late 16.

Congratulations! What a lovely surprise to come back too and great to know you didn't get an RFE.  Question, has your status online changed or has the date when they last touched it changed. I ask as people are receiving approvals without the case status updating and I am wondering if they leave some kind of trail, i.e the date that it was last updated.   Any way very happy for you! :)

My last update was on the 19th of Jan saying date of birth updated. Approval date was the 22nd of Jan. No other updates since tbe 19th.

Congratulations to everyone getting approved.

Congratulations to everyone getting approved.

However if they updated your birthdate on the 19th it might be when they went into your file to approve on the 22nd?  Was that the same year, or a year later?

Where are you seeing it as being updated or touched? I don't see anything in the USCIS website. Thanks!

If you go to  your case status via USCIS, log in,  at the bottom it will say receipt number, followed by last updated, followed by form, email alert, mobile alert. My last update is there and it was done last March it just says 03/07/17

The end of the GC plus 1 year that the letter extends it. So your GC expires end of March, so two weeks before that expiration date.  Some offices allow a month before, mine says two weeks.  Sorry there is no transparency across the board. I shake my head when they blame one of us for coming in for a stamp, when if they actually got there act together, we wouldnt have to do that, nor would my husband,  for example have to take a days vacation from work to drive me the 2 and a half hours it takes to go to the office.  Most of my husbands time off are taken either taking me to opticians, doctors or USCIS appointments, some are necessary the latter should not even have to happen!

How did you find out that your local office only accepts 2 weeks before? I called USCIS 3x and spoke to 3 agents and I believe they all just have me their opinions, nothing factual!!! Urgh!!!! I wasn’t even going to get the stamp Lol. Because yes....driving all that way with a 3 year then drive back would be a whole day venture. Especially in the California traffic!!! I also don’t want my hubby to have to take time off of work! We were just discussing how it should not be a stamp thing, just a phone call or something stating we are close to the expiration, please send us a new letter of extension. I dunno 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks for your advice/input. I will reschedule to closer to my GC expiration.

Same year

So probably shows they were working on it.  Nothing has updated for me since March 2017, keep looking to see if the date has changed and absolutely NOTHING!  At least they are predictable. :)

As I lost my GC, this is my field office, yours may be different.  Any way I went for a stamp and they said you can come back in a year, 2 weeks before the stamp expires.  They wont send a new letter Im afraid, it has to be the stamp.

Awwww congrats on being pregnant!!! Babies are such a blessing!!!! We have one little girl and hope to have more!!!

I am happy that the officer was nice enough to give you the stamp. I am scared that I will drive out there with my daughter in tow, only to find out we are too early. Plus I’d prefer my husband to come with me just in case it’s a long day.

Good luck with everything!!!!
