Hi

My experience at the US Embassy Colombo:  My fiancé is a Sri Lankan national and I am here with him in Sri Lanka waiting for AP decision.  His interview was sept. 2oth 2016 at 1:00 pm Thursday.

We arrived at 11:00am because we were nervous to get there.   I came to Sri Lanka specifically for his interview(lawyer said embassy will let me in).  When we got to the gate, I asked the security guard if I can attend my fiancé's interview.  he said he would ask.  He told me yes, but when I went inside they told me I could not attend my fiancé's interview with him.  I was so mad.  I had to stay outside in the hot sun for 2.5 more hours.  When he came out, he gave me this yellow sheet and he said he was on ap.  I had no clue what was ap.  He said the CO was very nice and asked a few questions and gave him the infamous 221(1)g sheet. But at last we finally have  been getting status update changes...Jan 18, 23,26 and 31 2017.  Oh I forgot.  When I called the embassy a few days after his interview, his CO wanted me to come in for an interview.  What kind of sense did that make?  Any how, hopefully we will hear some good news soon.

if anyone had an interview in Colombo, I sure would like to hear from you'll.

Hi Figwit,

My fiance is also a Sri Lankan national, although I am here in the US. We are also waiting for an AP decision. My fiance's interview was on September 6th, 2016 at 1:00pm. He went to the interview without me. They interviewed him for a while, and then issued a yellow 221g form for AP. The requested documents were 1) photocopies of my visa stamps, 2) my IRS tax transcript - I submitted my W2s and 1040 forms, and 3) his original Sri Lankan birth certificate - he brought the translated version.

We submitted all of the necessary paperwork on September 8th. I have been getting status updates, both with and without me contacting the embassy. In late December, early January, we had a few updates (about the same frequency as you, just a few weeks earlier). The only difference I've seen is that they kept my fiance's passport and bank draft.

I am hoping that it is a good sign that we are both going through a similar timeframe. At least neither of us is being singled out, just seems like things are really busy at the Colombo embassy.

I really hope AP is over for both of us soon!!! Keep us updated!

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone else who has been through the K-1 visa process. Are you still getting updates? We got them fairly frequently, but the last update was a couple weeks ago now. :( So stressful!

Hope you're enjoying Sri Lanka and having a great time with your fiancé! Please update or send me a message if you hear anything!

February 8 last update. When we called the embassy, they said administrative review takes about 3 weeks-9 months. That's what we are on. Our case is at the embassy. I'll let you know if something happens ?. Hang in there.

Hi Figwit,

Have you heard anything about your K-1 visa? We're still in administrative processing. We went a few months with no update, but have seen a lot of updates recently.

Hope you and yours are well!
