EAD Renewal & Expedite Experience

Hi Guys,

I've been reading this forum for a while and found out so many helpful information. So I'd like to share my story here to help others who are in the same boat. My current EAD expires on Feb 8, 2017 and submitted renewal application based on pending Asylum case on Oct 31, 2016.

Nov 10, 2016:  USCIS Receipt Notice Date from TSC for Renewal application, applied from LA, California.

Dec 27, 2016 (Day 47): Received email from employer to provide them new EAD by Jan 2017 latest. So I decided to try expedite request based on Option 1) Severe financial loss to individual and employment termination. I called NCSC number listed on the receipt and asked if I can continue working with the receipt after current EAD expired? He said it depends on my employer.

Dec 28, 2016 (Day 48): Denied my expedite request that they don't have enough evidence. (That letter I received after several weeks later.)

Jan 11, 2017 (Day 63): Still no response from USCIS. I checked the status online everyday and it just said "Case is Received", so much worries to let go of my job. So I called to follow up about my expedite request and the man was not very helpful and said that he can't see the update and told me to call back in the morning to speak to Tier 2.

Jan 12, 2017 (Day 64): I called NCSC and spoke to the very helpful lady. She asked my DOB, Address and read the update of expedite request that it was denied on Dec 28. But helped me to submit another Expedite request and told me to wait 5 business days. She told me the same thing that I can continue working if my employer allows.

Jan 18, 2017 (Day 70): I followed up to NCSC and the representative said I need to wait the letter in mail to send supporting documents.

Jan 23, 2017 (Day 74): Received the letter in mail that they need supporting documents to send to tscsrmtdoc@uscis.dhs.gov with ATTN: XM1448. So I scanned documents and sent them over night such as loans documents, email from employer and my ID cards.

Jan 30, 2017 (Day 81): Still no update as "Case was Received". At that time I almost lost hope to let go of my job but I called to NCSC again to follow up. That representative was very helpful and helped me to raise another SR. And again I asked the same question if I can continue working.

He told me to wait and read that to me that "My EAD will be automatically extended 180 days after the expiry date as long as I submitted the renewal before the current one expiration."

I was so happy to hear that and relieved. Later I saw an article too that DHS accomplished the rule about automatic 180 days extension to help EAD holders on Jan 17, 2017. (So much relieved)

Jan 31, 2017 (Day 82): I no longer worried about my job. But got finally reply from USCIS to my email that my case meets the expedite criteria. But the case status on their website was still the same. (I checked every hour)

Feb 1, 2017 (Day 83): As soon as I woke up and checked the status saw it "New Card is being produced". Finally, I'm happy again and hope to get it within this week. (Long Story but hope it helps)

Good Luck everyone!
