They may ask you to take the transcript to the interview (most likely) or mail it in.  My approach to this entire process is to front load with as much information as you can, both at the NVC stage and at the interview with no room for questions/requests :)

Definitely ideal and a smart approach. Thanks for the info!

My only question would be, if taxes are not due until April 15, how could they even ask for the tax return before April 15? It doesn't seem to make sense that they ask for the 2016 tax return before taxes are due, if the IRS gives us a certain amount of time to file taxes.

It's like NVC is rushing us to get them done before we are required to have them done. It seems like they should not be asking for that until after taxes are due, but whatever, it's NVC's rules.

As mentioned, 2016 tax return is not required if you have not filed 'em. Anyway, AOS forms are evaluated at embassy/consulate (evidenced by a recent topic posted on VJ, in that NVC sent the case to embassy and AOS form was denied there and the petitioner was asked to include co-sponsor).

In a nutshell, you will be required to produce 2016 tax return at interview anyway, if your interview is scheduled after Tax Day; so it is better to include the tax return in AOS packet at NVC. You can take transcript at the time of interview, which is not required, by the way.

OK, you said "you can take the transcript at the time of interview, which is not required". Are you saying it is not required to present the transcript at the interview? I can go to the interview with just the tax return and W-2s for 2016 and be ok?

I have a cosponsor, I don't know if that affects anything.

That is correct. You are not required to produce transcript, but I would surely suggest you to order one and take it to interview, just to be on safe side.

Having co-sponsor doesn't affect the process, only more documents that you need to produce. (Latest tax return and W2s or transcript etc.) Other than that no affect on processing.

Ok thanks. Just didn't want to have to wait on getting the tax transcript unless absolutely necessary before moving on with this process, since I already have all my documents together.

Oh sure, for sending to NVC, no need to wait for transcript at all. I was advising that when you go for interview, if possible, take transcript with you. Hope I didn't confuse you.

You are welcome.

Also, just to make a process a little bit faster (probably a day or two); you can gather all the documents (minus the AOS and IV document cover sheets) and depending on how long it took to clear your AOS payment ( ours took 2 business days to clear), you can send the packets right after paying your IV bill. Most probably your packets will reach NVC soon as you complete you DS-260 form.

We didn't do this, but "ny2017" did the exact thing I told you. That was smart.

woke up to checklist...

Checklist was for japanese police certificate,

which I called both my lawyer and the NVC and was told it is not necessary to send it to the NVC.

but I need to take it to the embassy directly.

It is a sealed envelope and says it is not valid if opened..

I called the NVC this morning and unfortunately got an extremely rude rep..

She told me now it is necessary and I need to send a photocopy of the certificate...

I will call later and check.. after so many weeks of waiting, getting checklist was my nightmare :(

Scan date: 22 Dec 2017

I'm so, so sorry this is happening to you. We have the same scan date and i was so hoping for good news for us both. They caan keep changing the rules as they go. If they told you it wasnt needed. Did they send an email to inform you. I would keep calling and requesting to speak to a supervisor, and i pray you get one who will understand.

I would like to know more about this too! Does anyone know what are we supposed to bring if our interview date falls around April?

Hopefully someone here will be able to clarify this. Maybe try the case complete group too. Do you have CC yet?
