OK, so you're saying to submit the 2016 return, not the 2016 transcript, to NVC, but to take the 2016 transcript to the interview?

They prefer transcripts but they are not required, you can use a copy of your return instead .

Yes, submit a copy of the 2016 return.  If you are filing a paper return, you can also include a USPS return receipt to show that IRS received your return.  I do not think the 2016 tax transcript is readily available right after you file your return so you can take that to the interview.

I-130 (for parents of US Citizens):

8/19/2022: NOA (IOE0917XXXXXX); Texas Service Center

7/22/2023: Both (parents) petitions approved

7/27/2023: Both cases sent to NVC

8/8/2023: Received NVC welcome email for both parents

My husband did that and the rep told him that the checklist was wrong...(yayy...!)

and however it was sent to a supervisor review and could take up to 6 weeks :(

When did you get your checklist? We called several times today and the rep told us that the checklist was wrong! (we were right about not sending the  japanese police certificate and it shouldnt be shown as missing document. BUT still, it could take up to 6 weeks, This is really crazy :( Their mistake and we are the ones who need to wait.

Scan date: Dec 22, 2016

Checklist (By NVCs mistake!): Feb 28, 2017

I got a checklist December 20 , tell them you need to talk to a supervisor if they say not available ask for a call back , good luck hopefully you hear something soon.

Perfect! Thank you, exactly the information I was looking for. It seems ludicrous to me that if my tax transcript is not yet ready, especially since I have until April 15 to file, that they would require that before the tax transcript is even available. It would mean having to wait to submit everything until the transcript has even become available.

I am planning on filing immediately in any case, but if I have until April 15 to file, and then it takes a few weeks until a transcript is available for me, they can't expect me to wait longer for the visa just to have a document become available if I filed on time, if my interview is in April or early May for example.

@norieyora Agree to ask to speak to a supervisor here...also, on the instructions for the checklist, did they say if you need to take the police report to the interview or did they say mail to NVC?

My only question would be, if taxes are not due until April 15, how could they even ask for the tax return before April 15? It doesn't seem to make sense that they ask for the 2016 tax return before taxes are due, if the IRS gives us a certain amount of time to file taxes.

It's like NVC is rushing us to get them done before we are required to have them done. It seems like they should not be asking for that until after taxes are due, but whatever, it's NVC's rules.

I will call soon and ask for a supervisor. ( I called this morning and got a very rude rep..and couldnt ask for a supervisor.. :/ )

on the checklist it said that I should mail the document to the NVC,

but the rep confirmed me the document shouldn't be sent to the NVC and should be taken to the consulate,

but we have to wait for an answer from the NVC as  the case is sent with a note to the supervisor to complete the case properly..

Too confusing, but I try to keep my little hope.-.

This is definitely true, but the consequences could be receiving a checklist for it after April 15 when you can avoid this from now, especially if you are able to file your taxes now.

Yes, I hope they are able to complete your case soon with the help of a supervisor.  Perhaps call during the evening hours; I've seen instances where a supervisor has called back and cases were complete within a few days.  Keep the faith!

It was court and prison records they said I have to mail it to them , it's been 9 weeks I'm  hoping I hear something soon , so I can get April interview.

So even if I submit my documents to NVC before April 15, if they review them after April 15 they could give me a checklist for not having the tax return submitted, something I was not required by the IRS to submit before the time of document submission to NVC? Sorry to beat a dead horse, just trying to follow NVC's reasoning.

They may ask you to take the transcript to the interview (most likely) or mail it in.  My approach to this entire process is to front load with as much information as you can, both at the NVC stage and at the interview with no room for questions/requests :)

Most likely they will ask you to bring and updated aos to the interview but with them you never know.
