woke up to checklist...

Checklist was for japanese police certificate,

which I called both my lawyer and the NVC and was told it is not necessary to send it to the NVC.

but I need to take it to the embassy directly.

It is a sealed envelope and says it is not valid if opened..

I called the NVC this morning and unfortunately got an extremely rude rep..

She told me now it is necessary and I need to send a photocopy of the certificate...

I will call later and check.. after so many weeks of waiting, getting checklist was my nightmare :(

Scan date: 22 Dec 2017

That is devastating. You need to think of a way to solve this ASAP. Wish I had some info. I will try and dig up some info which may be useful to you.

Hang in there. This will Pass. Good luck.

Just got off the phone with NVC.

They received our mail on Feb 27, 2017. I guess this is our Scan Date. She also said that our 8 weeks begins from 27th Feb and not 24th Feb.

I would suggest everyone to contact NVC actively until you find out your Scan date, and not assume the received date is the scan date.

Good luck everyone.

Thank you Tanish! below is what it says on the website...

I cant understand how the NVC can change the rude so suddenly? I did everything according to their instructions :(

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country/JA.html

Special Seal(s) / Color / Format:  Japanese Police Certificates are issued in a sealed envelope. If the seal is broken, the certificate is considered invalid. Visa applicants should not open a sealed envelope containing a Police Certificate.  The applicant must bring the original Police Certificate in a sealed envelope to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate at the time of his/her interview. Applicants do not need to mail their Police Certificate to the National Visa Center.

This is just a thought. [This is assuming you can re-apply for new Police Certificate]

You can send the current Certificate to NVC. [before sending call them and ask if you can send the complete sealed envelope you received. If you can send the whole envelope without opening it, that would be the best case scenario]

After that you can apply for new Japanese Police Certificate.

See if you can do that. Anyone else who has experience in this matter, please chime in.

What was the checklist for? That sucks. I hope they pick up where they left off in checking your papers as soon as you pass that missing document (and not have to wait another 8 weeks, god forbid.)

The checklist was for court and prison records even the police certificate states my wife never been arrested they say it's required by country, I asked them if I can bring it to the interview they said no, I don't think they start all over again but who knows with these people.

When did you get your checklist? We called several times today and the rep told us that the checklist was wrong! (we were right about not sending the  japanese police certificate and it shouldnt be shown as missing document. BUT still, it could take up to 6 weeks, This is really crazy :( Their mistake and we are the ones who need to wait.

At least it's a relief that you won't have to send the docs which were not necessary. Also I don't think it will take that long. You will hear good news soon.

Just received another text message that today my petition has been sent to the Department of State. About a week after petition approval now, so in about a week NVC should have my petition. PD August 2. I think I will finally be ready to start submitting stuff to NVC in a couple weeks.

When I called nvc to ask them when will I get my case number they told me please allow 2 weeks for us to input into our system. And they received my case 3 business days after my case was sent to them... My PD 27July:(

People who are going through NVC right now, does NVC require your 2016 tax transcript? I will be able to submit my paperwork to NVC before my tax transcript will be available, so will I have to wait until my 2016 tax transcript is available before I can submit my paperwork to NVC, thus delaying the process?

I am seeing contradicting information and would like a firm answer from those currently going through the process. Thanks.

If you can file your taxes now, I'd suggest you do so and then submit 2016 return and W2s along with 2015 and 2014 tax transcripts to NVC.  I think for folks waiting for an April interview, this is probably the best route to take, where you take an updated AOS to the interview in addition to the 2016 tax returns.  According to NVC, they recommend taking an updated AOS to the interview and also a copy of the "old" AOS that was submitted to NVC.  Please ensure that the signature pages (and ALL pages) be included - they stressed this point.  Good luck everyone!

I-130 (for parents of US Citizens):

8/19/2022: NOA (IOE0917XXXXXX); Texas Service Center

7/22/2023: Both (parents) petitions approved

7/27/2023: Both cases sent to NVC

8/8/2023: Received NVC welcome email for both parents

OK, so you're saying to submit the 2016 return, not the 2016 transcript, to NVC, but to take the 2016 transcript to the interview?
