I would contact them and be sure of this. I know that when my shipment showed delivered by DHL, it took NVC several days to 'receive' it into their system and give me a scan date, the scan date was not the same date as the date when it was delivered. But two months is a long time.. I understand days, but month(s) is strange, no matter what they say about the mail room being full or them being overwhelmed.

I called them twice, and answered me the same way, and says, "Ma'am the documents arrived to us January 13, " no more no less :(

Ok so I just got off the phone to NVC ... my status had changed from "At NVC" to "Submit required documents" so I wanted to find out for sure what they do or don't have.  Jim explained it very well so i thought i'd relay the info on here.  He explained that the system recently changed to new wording, so rather than saying "AT NVC" until case complete, it now shows as "submit required documents".  He advised that while my documents (IV and AOS packages) were received by them on 31st January, they are still awaiting review, and therefore the system doesn't know they're there til that happens.   As in, the "submit required documents" won't change until they look through the documents to see what I did or didn't include, and either give case complete or a checklist of missing documents.

My case also requires a police certificate to go from NZ police direct to NVC (not via myself) and he was unable to tell me if that had arrived until they review the documents.  That sux, as I literally have no way of knowing if its there, and if it didn't arrive it can hold up my case.  But nothing I can do about it so I just wait and pray.

So while some people have been told the "submit required documents" means they have gone into review, it's not necessarily "review" like supervisor review etc ... it simply means the documents have arrived and have not yet been reviewed/processed.
I'm at 3 weeks and 3 days so far ... so I just have to wait it out til the 6 weeks before making more enquiries I guess. Hopefully the time flies by, or they feel generous and decide to pull out my case and process it early hehe. (wishful thinking)

Thanks for the explaination. I think it (the new system) doesnt apply to all petititons though, as mine didnt change. I still see ''At NVC''.

Thank goodness. Our second expedite request was approved yesterday. Found out via the CEAC website.

I had already been told (a loooong time ago, back in June when I started this process) by someone at the Paris embassy who actually took care of visas, that "as long as the paperwork's in order they will accept the expedite" - I guess the first expedite was looked at by a different person. Well, the right person looked at the second one.

Hang in there everybody.

NVC received my files in the mail on Dec 5, and I now have 3 N/A. I never asked for a scan date, so I'm not sure on the exact time frame. Just thought I'd share if anyone is interested.

Congratulations!

I also called NVC and was advised that even if they take a week to scan your documents, the processing will be assumed to start from the day they received mail and not the day they scanned it. So I guess now I won't be calling them for at least 6-7 weeks as processing time at NVC has recently been updated to 8 weeks.

Good luck everyone.

That's not true they start counting from the day they put your documents in the system , that's the only way they can keep track of the date they received them , I will call wednesday and make sure they got them , I saw someone in here yesterday said they sent their documents in November  and never called , now they are saying their scan date is January 13, I guess they got lost in the mail room for a while , keep in mind they receive thousands of cases every day. Good luck

Oh, I guess you are talking about "R and KJ". Good point. Even if I did nothing, my wife would surely call NVC before Wednesday. She's been stressing a lot over this whole process. She's been pressuring me to put together the whole set for interview right away.

So, yeah. We are going to call and confirm that our package is scanned some time next week. Thanks for the heads up. Appreciate it.

Really? What was the reason for your expedite? And did you speak with someone at the NVC or someone at the Paris embassy? How long did it take for you to find out the approval?

i also put in an expedite, but I'm not sure it will work.

i also put in an expedite, but I'm not sure it will work.

First reason: emotional and financial hardship. Second reason: even more financial hardship (wife's car was destroyed, she had no way to get around). Second one was sent by my congressman's DoS liaison, which may have had something to do with it.

The embassy is always the one to make the decision on expedites, so it varies quite a bit depending on the embassy you're talking to. But I think it also depends on _who_ at the embassy looks at your expedite. I would wager that my first one was seen by one person, and the second was seen by someone else.

I know there are people who for some reason get upset at people who file expedites for what they believe are 'non-emergency' reasons, but it's not like it's queue jumping - different embassies have higher or lower case load, and the response will differ depending on each case. IMO, everybody who thinks they may have a valid reason should try at least once - think about it this way, if they accept, case load at NVC goes down because that's one less case for them to have to deal with.

Oh and I knew my congressman had submitted the request last week, but have still not received an email confirming that the expedite was approved, only way I knew was to log in to CEAC and click on "Check My Visa Application Status" link.

I agree. i also had a senator's liasion send in a request for expedite, but I'm scared it's going to get denied because they did it without consulting me first and they did not include any documents (such as medical records and proof of financial/emotional hardship), they just sent in a request. If it gets denied, I might have them re-submit it again with supporting documents and hopefully that will help. I really hope it gets accepted though because after waiting 12+ weeks, I'm this close to losing my mind while also being 7 months pregnant ):

I dont know when they sent in the request (sometime last week or this week), but I have been checking the IV status and it still says " action required: Submit requested documents".

so now that your expedite request has been accepted, what's next?
