Hey Guys thanks for the big welcome. What steps do I take for me and my fiancee to get married? Do I need to apply for a social security number first? If any of you could share your experience and advise I would much appreiciate it. :wacko:

when we got married...mike had his Social...what you need to do for that is wait at least 2 weeks and go to the social security office....you must bring your passport with the i-94 paper in it...you will then get the social security card in about a week or so...

are far as getting married....like i said mike had it and they did ask for it...but i read before we went to get the marriage licence that they would ask for it but if he didn't have it it would be ok....so check before you go to apply for the license if it is needed or not...

I didn't have a SSN at the time of us getting our marriage licence or at the time of our wedding. I applied for it 2 days after we were married.

June 10/04... K-1 Interview - APPROVED!!!!

July 31/04... Entered U.S.

Aug. 28/04... WEDDING DAY!!!!

Aug. 30/04... I-485, I-765 & I-131 sent to Seattle

Dec. 10/04... AOS Interview - APPROVED!!!!! (Passport stamped)

Sept. 9/06... I-751 sent to NSC

May 15/07... 10-Yr. PR Card arrives in the mail

Sept. 13/07... N-400 sent to NSC

Aug. 21/08... Interview - PASSED!!!!

Sept. 2/08... Oath Ceremony

Sept. 5/08... Sent in Voter Registration Card

Sept. 9/08... SSA office to change status to "U.S. citizen"

Oct. 8/08... Applied in person for U.S. Passport

Oct. 22/08... U.S. Passport received

DONE!!! DONE!!! DONE!!! DONE!!!

KAELY (K-2 Visa)

Apr. 6/05... DS-230, Part I faxed to Vancouver Consulate

May 26/05... K-2 Interview - APPROVED!!!!

Sept. 5/05... Entered U.S.

Sept. 7/05... I-485 & I-131 sent to CLB

Feb. 22/06... AOS Interview - APPROVED!!!!! (Passport NOT stamped)

Dec. 4/07... I-751 sent to NSC

May 23/08... 10-Yr. PR Card arrives in the mail

Mar. 22/11.... N-400 sent to AZ

June 27/11..... Interview - PASSED!!!

July 12/11..... Oath Ceremony

First you should check with your State to see what kind of requirements they have -- they are all different. We didn't need anything but identification.

All you need is the passport with the visa, the translation and original of the BC and documentation for the USC (BC and ID). My SSN arrived the day of my wedding, I saw it in the mailbox when we got back from the courtroom.

My fiance applied for his SSN only a week after his arrival. We had to show his passport and the I-94 form stapled inside. His card arrived in the mail only 5 days after he applied for it.

We live in Florida and only had to show his passport to apply for the marriage license (his SSN had not arrived at that time).

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil
