I am US citizen. Wife is a US green card holder and Chinese citizen. We have applied for I-130 for my step-son, he son. We have a notarized letter in "Chinese white book" from her ex, the child's genetic father granting him permission to immigrate to the US with us. I have sponsored the child since I am a US citizen to speed things up.

My question is, who needs to attend the interview with the child? I applied so maybe I need to be there, my wife is the genetic mother so maybe she needs to be there. I prefer for us both to be there but the trouble is we own a small business and we would likely have to close up shop for 2 weeks to attend the interview, wait on receiving the passport back with the visa, buying plane tickets and finally traveling back here. I know the genetic father doesn't have to be there because we already have his permission in writing from him. I wonder if I could stay here and run the business and let my wife go there alone and return with our son...

So we were just approved today. To answer my own question... since my stepson is 12 (under 14) one parent or a legal guardian must be present.
