that's all you needed to say in the first place, i didn't understand what you were getting at maybe because you're equating a business associate's dealing with a vermont use tax audit with trump's tax web.

I am just referring to the law, not in any one particular place or example. I don't know that he can hide everything, I'm sure he may be able to hide some things, we can all make assumptions but can he really pretend everything he buys is to re-sell? No matter how good his team is that seems to bw quite difficult.

he doesn't have to.

and none of us should have to assume, he should have willingly released his taxes.

So are you telling me Trump can spend say $30,000 on some random luxury stuff, use it as a business expense to lower his income, not even say that he bought it for resale purposes and still not pay any sales and/or use tax on it? I would sure like to know how.

My issue with his tax returns never had anything to do with him paying his fair share of taxes. I'm sure he pays taxes, I'm sure it isn't as much as what I think he should pay. I'm sure everything he does is, at the very least, "dubiously" legal. The problem isn't with the individual millionaire/billionaires, the problem is the system lets them cut down what they pay legally until it negligible, compared to their wealth. I don't need to see an individual rich person's tax return to know that is a problem. I also won't kid myself and think Trump will do anything significant to fix the problem. He benefits from it and he isn't the kind of person to cut himself out of a good deal. He didn't get where he is today by doing that.

I wanted his tax returns because:

1. It has been the standard for decades now

2. It promotes transparancy for candidates

3. It would provide information on his charitable contributions

Now you could argue we have no business knowing about a candidate/president's charitable contributions, but then it circles back to point 1 and point 2. People can claim a lot of things, and it helps back up their claims. I also think we the people have the right to full knowledge on a President's business dealings, especially if he isn't completly divesting himself. We should have been given full access to those "stacks" of paper at that press conference (Well the real ones since those were clearly props). He can claim that because he doesn't actively run the companies he has no conflict of interest, but we shouldn't have to take his word for it.

Well yes I'm clearly wrong with your personal example, but I can say with absolute certainty that it isn't usual for insurance to pay 10%. They pay less for sure but typical more than that. That hospital lost money even though you were insured. It may have had to do with what the bill was for (why your insurance initially said they wouldn't pay). Perhaps it was something that the insurance doesn't typically cover but the hospital was able to get them to pay something. That happens sometimes, they ask the doc to do a peer to peer with a "medical" person at the insurance company to try to convince them to cover (they aren't fun).

Well, that was just my recent experience.I'm sure the 10% thing is variable, but I have heard from friends of similar situations (can't quote the dollar amounts, but it was in the hugely discounted range same as mine).   I also know that my dad had about $125,000 in debt just forgiven when my mom died.  Not sure who ate that bill, I am guessing the hospital.  Probably ended up being a tax write off.

Another example is medical supplies... insurance is billed $50 for an item, they pay $8, and I pay $2.  That's roughly 20%.

personally, i think the real thieves are the devious trumps of the world. thieves in gold plated airplanes banishing refugees and allies to certain death while tax payers get to pay for trump's scotus nominee hype. did you hear about that?

Not sure what exactly you are referring to in regards to scotus and taxpayers.

Regards to the first part, I get that those people get away with alot but who allows them to? Who enables it by loopholes and weak enforcement? They only enforce the law against the little guy. Why should people even have to pay for an accountant? Tax code could and should be made simple enough that any child can do it. I'm not a big government person so I don't appreciate the overreach into my pocket taxing me at every turn, regardless of whether or not other thieves get away with not paying it. To me they're all thieves - I see no difference between those trying to steal, and those doing whatever in their power to avoid being stolen from.
