I think this is definitely going to be the case. Nebraska Service center has already slipped from ~5 months to now ~7 months. If they end up instituting "extreme vetting" (whatever that means), I can definitely see additional delays.

Trinidad & Tobago. its a Twin island in the west indies.   its scary to think i could wake up tomorrow to some crazy news.. it's insane what's happening right now.

keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes high that i can be with my wife this year.

You'll be fine.

Trinidad and Tobago will not end up on a list of countries 'prone to terror.'

No. Service centers have always fluctuated in the time they spend adjudicating petitions.

'Extreme vetting' - Whatever that means - Will not happen at USCIS service centers. The service center's job is not to question whether or not you're a good person. The service center's job is to find out whether or not you are an eligible relative to be sponsored by an I-130 petition. Bona fide relatives are eligible to apply for a visa, but no visa is applied for at a USCIS service center.

Visas are applied for at a consulate abroad. 'Extreme vetting' - Whatever that means - Will happen at consulates responsible for issuing visas.

Hi everyone. My wife and i are about to start our I-130 process and we are worried with all that's going on it may make things very difficult for the process.

We are already married. we have our forms and all documents ready.

we are just wondering if it will be affected badly by Donald Trump.

Side note: Even if your wife was a citizen of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen, the travel ban is only in effect for 90 days. It does not affect petitions, only visas. I-130 petitions take longer than 90 days to adjudicate.

Issue at hand: I don't think you have anything to worry about. The temp "travel-ban" is for certain countries only.

I hate to be a fear monger, but I truly worry about the Trump administration because of Steve Bannon. He hates immigrants, even legal ones.

If they're willing to enact policies that affect even immigrants who are already here legally, there's no telling how far they will want to go.

Read the Guides available on VisaJourney; they provide much more in-depth information.

Basically, you send your application to one of two lockboxes in the United States. Which lockbox you send it depends on which state you live in. For example, you would send it to the Phoenix Lockbox. The Lockbox basically cashes your application fee check and just checks that all forms have been signed. The lockbox then forwards your application (seemingly RANDOMLY) to one of four service centers - (1) Nebraska, (2) Potomac, (3) California, or (4) Texas. These days very few I-130 applications go to California. Where you happen to live in the United States has NO bearing on which service center you get sent to. You get no say or choice in the matter.

It appears right now that Nebraska has become incredibly slow. Processing times have slipped to 6-8 months. Texas appears to be fastest, while Potomac is somewhere in the middle. But again, there's no way to choose your service center. All you can do is pray you get sent to Texas.

Why are some center slower than others?

Not a clue.

hello! I received my NOA1(text/email) Dec 20 2016 and was routed to Nebraska. How long does it take to get NOA2? Regarding on the 6-8months processing time is it upto the interview/approval? or upto NOA2?

Thanks,

We are on the same boat as you. My husband and I were hesitant to apply after the election, but we figured we have to at least try and just think positive, we just got our 'receipt notice' Im not sure if thats NOA1 but thats where we are right now...we got texas service center so i hope to go they process our i130 fast because I am still nervous about all these executive orders left and right and the tension with Mexico right now. Just go for it and dont forget to pray to god every. Wish you all the best of luck in your visa journeys :) !!!!
