hi,

just curious, for those who already got their jobs, how long did it take from the time you arrived in the US until the time you were able to find a job? (assuming all processes of aos and ead went through at a normal pace).

Timeline

Both times I have been looking for work here in the U.S., it has taken me quite a long time to find a job.

It took 4 months the first time, and then at least 3 months the second time. I think the problem was that I just couldn't find a job that paid me what I was looking for, because my last job in Canada paid me very well, and it was hard to accept a job at a lower rate of pay. I ended up both times with significant pay cuts, but I realized there was no way I was going to get the same amount of pay here.

Good luck with the job hunt.

Technically, 2 weeks because I 'chose' not to work during my first 7 months in the US. After I got my EAD, I waited only a couple of weeks before the agency called me with an assignment that has since become my full-time job. Still at it and loving it.

Like everybody else's experience, it all depends on what skill is on demand in your area.

I moved on mid July 06, I did not look for job until mid Aug. I got a job within 1 week as temp (because somebody moved out of the area) in finance area.

But, if I were waiting/looking for a permanent employment, the waiting time would have been closer to 6 months.

It took me about 6 months. I was looking for something with my qualifications and lower, but I didn't get hired for the lower positions because they thought I was over-qualified. So it took a while to get the job I deserved and that matched my skills.

I didn't work for 10 months, we didn't file paperwork very promptly, then I never received EAD. While my case was being investigated by a local congressman I received my green card and it took me 4 months to find a job.

It was a nightmare, I discovered that stay-at-home mom I always dreamt of being was completely not for me :P

Good Luck

Ana

Our process was DCF, hubby had to wait about 5 weeks for his SS to come through, but it took him nearly 4 months to start working.

Me? took about 3 weeks... I was lucky though!

I did DCF and could work from the time I arrived here last November. However despite applying for several jobs and not being too fussy either about what I took I still haven't been offered a job by anyone.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry

hi,

just curious, for those who already got their jobs, how long did it take from the time you arrived in the US until the time you were able to find a job? (assuming all processes of aos and ead went through at a normal pace).

I got here in US in the middle of last Sept. (2006), I got my green card beginning of Feb 2007, then I started looking for a job right away, either by temporary agencies for a job in an office and by myself asking for a job in a store, so actually I ended up to get sort of both. Part time in a store, and I'll get a part time job in an office very soon. So from when I got here until the very first job I got, all together took me about six months.

But again as the VJ people said alreay, all depends on what you are looking for.

For me at the moment this solution is more than fine, and I'm pretty ok with it.

I wish you all the best for your job when you get your green card!!!!! ;)

It took Claudeth three months to get her EAD and then, after Christmas, she applied for a couple of jobs and was made an offer within about two weeks of applying. Good luck
