Recent J1 waiver timeline 2017

Hi there,

DOS sent favorable recommendation on 12/21/2016, but no response from USCIS yet, not even a receipt number. Anyone can share your recent J1 waiver timeline here?

Yes, no objection. No government funds.

Interesting. I have applied for a J-1 Waiver back in the fall last year, and it's still pending.

 

I had government funds involved, and applied on the basis of No Objection as well.

Interestingly enough my status on the J1 waiver online status page hasn't changed since Dec 07 - anyone know if this has anything to  with the recent changes at DOS?

I applied for a J1 waiver in May 2015 and it took approx 3 months... favourable recommendation. Took a couple weeks after that to get a USCIS recommendation - but as per my knowledge if DOS approves, USCIS will approve.

Did you receive receipt notice from USCIS before you receive the final approval from USCIS?

I did not receive anything from USCIS after favorable recommendation from DOS.

I received I-797 from USCIS concurring with DOS but it took a while. I called USCIS, spoke to a second level officer and he told me that USCIS approved my waiver and to expect notice in a couple weeks. I suggest you call USCIS.

Anyone knows what might be the problem. My no objection status shows only 'RECEIVED' since January 18 and there has been no other update since then. Does it take so long?

Typical waiver processing timelines span 4-8 weeks after the receipt of every single piece of documentation they need. So it's not that long in your case, @otgeh, keep waiting.

NIST. How about you?

@DetectiveBabadook Department of State. Did you contact NIST about getting favorable sponsor views? What program were you on in the US?
