Ok, ladies and gentleman, the subject is money.

Here is the short story.  I love my woman to death, and she loves me.  She is from Russia.  She is very very good with money - when it comes to nickels dimes and pennies.  She never spends an extra dime.  But when it comes to big dollars, it's a whole another story.

For example, a friend of hers tells her about an investment opportunity.  You and I would spell it S C A M.  But they have a great website, have been around for years, and have an app that of course is going to make a billion dollars.  But no-one is every going to actually make money off of it.  They ask for $3,000 investment.  For an American, it's is easy to see the truth about it.

But not for her.  She is convinced it is a great opportunity, and does not see why I don't want to invest immediately.

This is a difficult situation for me.  I want to give her the respect and love that she deservers, but I don't want to go broke either.

So, what have I tried?  First, delaying tactics. "I need to study it more"  "I have my own ideas about a business I want to start"  But she still has attention on it.

I want to say "NO, its ridiculous." But I can't say that without upsetting her.  And she doesn't see it that way.

And I understand where she is coming from.  As a kid, I read and believed every get rich quick scan there was.  Until one day I released, it just doesn't work that way.  I have made my own bad investments in business I didn't know anything about and lost a lot of money.  But she just got here.  She doesn't know anything about that.  I have tried gently communicating my viewpoint, but it just goes over her head.  She gets caught up in the "Oh my god we are going to make a million dollars" and has trouble putting it down.

So please, lend me some wisdom.  I don't want to blow the relationship over mishandling money.  Out finances are actually just fine.  But with her feeling like she now has access to the bank account (which is both true and false at the same time) I feel like it is burning a hole in her pocket.

I also want to say that I was very careful when starting the relationship to judge her on finances.  She was NOT someone who had attention on it, or wanted a lot of gifts.  (Have been there before).  And she still doesn't.  It's just this investment thing that is driving me bonkers.

Try to impress upon her:

"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

"If this is such a magnificent deal, why don't the creators keep it to themselves and retain 100% of the profits?

Thank you TBoneTX.

The thing I learned was that it is important to listen and give due credit to her communication, even if I think it is incorrect.  In other words, not brushing her ideas off.

This is now resolved.  You may close the ticket.
