Just found out that my I-129F approval is going to expire in around 2 weeks and I still haven't gone to the medical or interview, was approved on the 13th of october 2016, I received it on the 2nd of december 2016, I had already booked a flight to go and see my fiancee for christmas before even knowing that it had been approved, I visited her for a month and have just got home to now find out the expiry of my I-129F and I have no time to get everything done as I have just applied for my medical records which can take 2 weeks also, I read that you can get an extension of another 4 months, will I be able to get this and how will I go about getting it.

I had a similar issue. I got my NOA2 but due to a death in the family continuing the process was delayed. I scheduled my visa interview on the last day it was still valid which automatically extends the validity period to the date of the interview, which in my case was 2 months later. You can create an account, schedule your appointment, and pay your interview fee at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/

Your good for one year. Your expiry date will move in increments of four months.  Embassy in the Philippines, which I familiar with, does it automatically.  Check with your Embassy for their process. You might also ask this question on the sub forum for the UK for a more definitive answer.

A user I've been talking to from the U.K. told me not to worry about the second date (4 months after your approval, correct?) because the embassy will extend it. My fiancé and I were both really worried about the petition expiring if she couldn't get her police certificate in time, which would push back the dates for her medical/interview, but he told me it doesn't really mean anything which was a huge relief. What Greenbaum said reminds me of what my friend said- it can extended for up to a year before the petition dies and that the U.K embassy does it automatically too, I believe. If you go past the date on the notice, you might want the petitioner to send an updated letter of intent, re-affirming their intent to marry you upon entry into the U.S. After that 4 month mark, some embassies may want to see it, so if you go over the original date, have them send you one to be safe :)
