I am currently out of status as of a week ago and we have been trying to prepare all that is needed for my change of status. At this point all the forms are done, money is set aside but I have to get 2 vaccinations before I can send it all away. Sounds relatively simple right? ... Well, it has been far from simple. We are getting quite frustrated at this point.

I had my medical done in London in October and at the time the doctor performing the examination advised me that I will need a tetanus booster and an MMR vaccination for the change of status process but not for the K1 visa. She went on to tell me that I would be better off getting the NHS to do the shots because they will be free, as opposed to them charging about 100 pounds per vaccine. Sounded good so we agreed on that and she put on my form "refused vaccinations at this point". After talking with my husband about it, we decided to wait until I was in the USA because the vaccinations would be covered by his medical insurance. So I waited. The doctor at the medical exam didn't seem too fussed about it so neither were we.

So we got married and have been trying to get everything sorted for the AOS for just over a month now, but the one thing that is holding us back is this whole vaccination issue. His doctor told us that a civil surgeon is the one who has to do the vaccinations and this shocked us. After the medical exam in London, it now seemed we were being fed contradictory information.

For a start, none of the numbers from the government website for civil surgeons actually worked. Some we waited on hold for what felt like forever, and other times we were just given other, equally unuseful numbers to call. But we found one that worked, for a civil surgeon 1 and a half hours away :( - he told us that he had to do the shots and in fact, I needed a FULL medical done at our cost due to the fact the London doctor put on the form "refused vaccinations at this time"

{Insert a million sad faces}

So today I did some reading, and reading and more reading and it seems that some of the posts on here seem to indicate that any doctor can do the shots and the Civil Surgeon needs to simply fill in form 7 of the (whatever number form it is that says my vaccinations are up to date)

So, if I can find a civil surgeon who is not trying to scam me out of more money for another medical... if i do the above and get a doctor to give me the vaccines, and then get the CS to fill in that form... is that sufficient?

I am so confused right now, I hate being out of status and its making me anxious.

Yes, that's right. The CS doesn't have to be the one to give you the vaccinations, they just have to fill out the form saying that you've had them.  Many pharmacies like CVS or Walgreens can offer these immunizations (though they are not free), as well as any primary care provider's office.  Just make sure you ask for proof from whoever gives you the shot, and bring that form to show the CS.

As for finding a CS who is aware of this, it can be tough.  Call as many as you can find, and search these forums for someone in your own city who found one to do their vaccination paperwork.

Spoiler

12/18/2015- NOA 1

1/29/2016- NOA 2

2/18/2016- Letter from NVC saying they're forwarding to Guangzhou

3/4/2016- Received P3, returned it about a week later

3/22/2016- P4 email

5/12/16- Interview. Approved!

5/16/16- After a few days saying administrative processing, CEAC now says issued!

Additional snafu: my fiancé came over on his visa, but just a month later (and the day before we were going to get married) he had an emergency that necessitated him returning to China.  I contacted the Guangzhou consulate via their email system, provided the requested documents/proof, and he was granted a second interview for "reissuance."  He had to re-do the medical, redo the interview (bringing yet another copy of all of the things he had to bring the first time) and we were approved again!  He received what looked like a new visa in his passport, but the original 90 day countdown for marriage was still ticking.  He came back to the US and we got married right away!

8/22/16- Married!

AOS

9/30/16- Filed for AOS, EA, AP

10/6/16- NOA 1 for AOS, EA, and AP (USCIS case status website says case was received on October 4th)

11/9/16- Bio appointment

12/13/16- EA and AP approved!

no news... case status on website still says "fingerprint fee received..."

4/11/17- submitted online service request for case out of normal processing time (over 6 months)

5/2/17- USCIS website updated to "My card is being produced!"

5/10/17- Green Card received

ROC

3/2/19- Filed ROC

3/8/19- NOA/18mo extension received

5/7/19- Bio appointment

9/2/20- Interview scheduled for next month!

They want to do the full medical as that is how they make their money.

So sorry that you didn't get good information earlier.. :/ Yes what you are suggesting would be enough. The i-693 states which parts need to be filled in for the vaccination part. It might not even be that they are necessarily trying to scam you but rather that they are unfamiliar with the K1 process, it's quite uncommon compared to all the other immigration processes. Good luck in finding the CS you need :)

Yay thank you so much for replying  :) Got myself an appointment with my husband's local doctor to get the shots in 2 weeks. So we have 2 weeks to find a CS that can help us out with the forms and then we can finally get the AOS done and dusted. Finally!

It's really hard when you don't fully know the process, and the people you trust to know the process don't know either. A lot of this has been just going round in circles so I am very glad you all are here to help, I dunno what I'd do if this forum didn't exist haha
