The media have scared parents to the point where they daren't let their children out of their sight. You are considered a bad parent if you don't know where your kid is at all times or aren't able to see them.

That's a good point. Kids are considered safe if they're at home on the sofa.

As a teacher I can TELL YOU that education is BADLY needed. THe kids are getting the wrong messages. It's easy to say, CONSOLE, that if you know how to not be fat EVERYONE should...but as early as elementaroy school, our schools are "sponsored" by cola companies. Here where I live, we have a contact with Pepsi - so there are pepsi machines in every corner. Even the ones with juice or gatorade are FILLED with sugar.

Take a gander at our cafeteria...pizza, nuggets, chips, cookies...I've never ONCe seen a salad here. The parents are poor in most of our public schools, and it's easier to spend $3.00 on a full meal from mc donalds than to go to the store and cook salad or healthy foods...and most of the time...they don't know HOW to eat right.

The parents are poor and uneducated so they need the help too!

It's not as simplistic as you make it sound...but hey, Console, you could always sue the foundation for annoying you!

LOL

I'm not complaining. I'm saying it shows how intelligent these people are. Heck, the education level in Cambodia is no where in comparison to the US. People take things for granted. It all boils down to how they were raised most times.

Don't forget kids here are inundated with messages that happiness comes from consumption (not TB, the other kind)... you can only be happy if you have x amount of toys and x amount of money and consume consume consume

People don't know when to stop.

Hmm....

No wonder people don't do their best. They view things as easy as patience and time. I have patience, and time. Don't you do your best when people condescend you?

You have no idea that this method works very well. I lived in the Housing Projects when I was little. People view us as drug dealers, etc...You know, instead of using negative reinforcement, I used that type of condescending as energy to fuel my will to prove to these people that I'm not what they think I am.

In America, in an attempt to prove to people that they are not like what they're perceive has been lost. There is no right way, or wrong way to this methodology.

Yes, I have to. If you don't look down at them, how are they're going to prove me wrong?

PRove you wrong? These people don't owe you ANYTHING nor do they have anything to PROVE to you. How presumptious you are.

If you simply ignore people ignorance, it will come back full circle towards you either indirectly or directly.

In my high school honor society program, my teacher always tell me that when she was little she always used hatred to drive her feedback into proving people wrong. I can relate to her since I did the same thing. To bring out the best in people, is not to ignore other people around. It's the power to will yourself into wanting to make sure you do your best.

From experience, after I did my best, and showed that these people who have houses and parents who can give them meals 3 times a day, that I can depend on my own and not rely on anybody to help me. Sure, I may seek guidance when I'm confused. But, I only need a small bit of guidance to bring me to the right path. Nowadays, even tutoring in school is a heartache.

This boils down to a lot of factors. It's not simply that these kids don't care about those around them, they're more selfish than ever to not do their best. From what I can see, they're lucky to have a nice school and they're not using it to their full potential. I know people have lots of potential in them, however, they become lazy when they take things for granted. My spiel is in regards to why condescending works well. I see people like to fight back. It's not nice, but, it fuel them into wanting to do their best.

I'm not understanding you. Sure, I guess some people need to be condescended to in order to light a fire under their a$$, but not everyone needs that. There are plenty of people who want to "do their best" simply out of self-respect and pride.
