I figured lots of people would be asking this but I couldn't find the question yet....

I'm on a green card through marriage and am seriously considering leaving the country given the government.  It seems if I leave for over a year I would lose my green card.  So fine... but what happens if I leave for say a decade, and then want to come back?  My husband is a US citizen.  Would the application for the green card start over and take another 8 months (or whatever) to process?  Would I have some big red mark against me?

Yes, you would need to start afresh.  Another option would be to stay until you have US citizenship, then you can travel freely.

So, your husband is going to stay in the US without you, or he's going to move to Canada with you and go through the whole permanent resident rigamarole there? These are scary times in the states, but I would never throw away all the time and money spent to get me here, let alone all the time and money that would be spent to get my husband to Canada.
