Evidence for ongoing relationship

My fiance and I communicate through very frequent Skype video calls and through daily iMessages. The problem is that you can't get a single log of the Skype calls, only with messages (personal stuff in there), and because our texts are iMessages, they don't go through the phone company (only the Apple server) so there's no log of those.

Anyone run into this issue? How can I resolve this?

Thanks

Hey Aeroth88,

My wife and I communicate exclusively through WhatsApp (chat + phone calls) and Skype (video calls). Here's what I ended up sending for spousal visa (should be very similar for the K1 visa) -

For Chat Logs:

  1. A screenshot from my cell phone of my WhatsApp profile page. This page lists my name and my phone number used with the account.
  2. A screenshot from my wife's cell phone of her WhatsApp profile page. Again, this lists her name, pictures, and phone number used with the account.
  3. A copy of my and her cell phone bill showing our name, phone number, and addresss.
  4. I then scrolled manually through our WhatsApp chat and took screenshots spanning our whole relationship (1-2 screenshots per week). I made sure the date and her name was present in every single screenshot.

In this way, you've shown what phone number is tied to your WhatsApp account and proven using a cell phone bill that the phone number belongs to you.

For SkypeVideo sessions:

  1. A screenshot of my Skype Account information page - shows my name, my pictures, and other personal details.
  2. A screenshot of her Skype Account information page.
  3. A sample of screenshots of our Skype log - showing the date, time, and duration of a video call which was made.

Hope this helps.

Please complete your profile to show what country you are filing in. Screenshots work. That how we sent in Skype info.

If you correspond on WhatsApp you can email your chats to yourself and print them out.

USCIS just wants to see that you're free to marry and have met in person. I'm not saying you shouldn't include chat records, but they can be faked and are just not compelling evidence. I've never bothered to read them. I highly doubt any officer will take the time to look at them.

100% agree that this not the most compelling evidence. Clearly, evidence of in-person visits are the best type of evidence, however, with that said, there have been many instances of RFE's being given which asked for evidence of ongoing communication (phone logs, etc.). If you look at these RFE, the requirements they outline for this include records that show (i) your name, phone number, (ii) your wife's name and phone number, and (iii) date and length of duration of call. So if you DO want to provide such evidence, just take these requirements in account.

The problem with that is that we do not make phone calls due to long distance/international charges... which I'm sure everyone here understands. If I need to call his number directly I do it through Google hangouts, which only stores logs for a few months and never the duration of the call.

Again, the necessity of this extent front loading (if that's what your compiling this for) depends on the country!

USCIS only requires proof of having met in person.

Some embassies want proof of ongoing relationship.

I don't think Canada is that way, but check the regional forum and embassy reviews to make sure.

We sent nothing, I had it it with me for the interview (just in case) but was never asked for it.

If you're worried, make some screenshots and include some samples of the period.
