Hello,

I hope someone can answer my question. My grandma came to the US with a tourist visa, my.mom ( who is a US citizen) applied for a petition for my grandma to obtain permanent residency and we also filed for adjustment of status. My question is, how long does it take til we receive a letter stating if she got approved or denied and if she gets approved, what are the next steps? Thank you so much in advance!

@NuestraUnion hi, yes, my mom is a US citizen

There is no wait for an immediate relative of a US citizen. I'm not sure if you can file concurrently, though. You should be able to file for AOS as soon as the I-130 is processed and approved. Check the USCIS website, it's surprisingly easy to navigate and has a lot of information. In terms of the duration, you just have to be patient. USCIS is majorly underfunded and they take a while to process all the applications. The normal procedure would be for her to return home and apply for an immigrant visa after the I-130 gets approved, but since your mom is a USC the overstay may be forgiven. Don't take my word for that though. Depends how she entered the country. Entering with immigrant intent on a tourist visa is fraud.

N-400 Application for Naturalization

Day    00 - 08/31/20 - Submitted online N-400 application. ROC still pending. Requested combo interview.

Day    01 - 09/01/20 - NOA received online. Status says biometrics appt letter will be sent. (PD 08/31/20)

Day  141 - 01/20/21 - Biometrics reuse letter

Day  233 - 04/22/21 - ROC approved, no news on N-400

Day  288 - 06/18/21 - Interview scheduled

Day  332 - 07/30/21 - Successful interview. No decision yet.

Day 758  - 09/28/22 - Oath ceremony will be scheduled

Day 870 - 01/18/23 - Oath ceremony complete

Intent is assessed upon entry and is no longer an issue
