The Canadian government cannot advise you on what the American government requirements... but you can find exactly what is needed on the reciprocity schedule.

Sorry, I meant I emailed the American Embassy in Rio. They gave me a link showing the reciprocity schedule, however it doesn't say what kind of certified criminal record check (fingerprints or only name and DOB). That's why I was confused.

I just went and had finger prints taken yesterday for an RCMP clearance.  Their website gives you a list of companies that will digitalize them since they only do that in Canada (I used one with Pardon in the name).  It's unfortunately not a cheap thing to do.  Most charge approx. CAD200 and then an extra cost if you want them sent back to you fast.  I'm hoping they arrive safely and all goes smoothly since it's quite the pain.  I lived there for only 11 months but Sydney Consulate has just changed their instructions for interview and want a police certificate for any country you've lived for more than 6 months, not 12 as it was.  I think this is quite common for many countries now.

There's another company that charged a little bit less (XL something). I think I'm going to order with them. I'm still waiting on my NOA2 that should arrive mid June, so I still have some time.

yeah, the US Embassy in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) asks for police certificate for all countries you stayed over 6 months as well. I guess I should be glad I didn't stay in any other country for that long otherwise the prices could double haha
