Since I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere online, here's our experience for future reference: It *is* possible to apply for Global Entry during RoC.

Problem: The Global Entry online application portal asks for the green card expiration date. Her card expired a few months ago; we have the extension letter. We weren't sure what to enter for the expiration date and didn't want to throw $100 down the drain by doing it wrong.

Tentative solution: At my GE interview a few months ago, I asked the officer, who said she should add one year to the old green card expiration date. Since officers are not known to be 100% reliable, we didn't know if it would work, but we tried...

Report back on solution: It worked. She was conditionally approved after a week, and she passed the interview today.

You'll need your new card in hand to update your online account with the new card's expiry date. There isn't much you can do with GE while you're waiting for your card. Congrats on your approval! Please consider updating the December filers thread if you haven't already :) Your approval will give hope to other Vermont December filers!

Are you sure GE can't be used in the interim? Have you tried it?

(I once said that in another thread--because that's what I'd read elsewhere on VJ and I thought it to be true--but somebody corrected me to say you can. Of course I can't find that thread... It might have been something like the kiosk rejects the card, but you get to skip to the front of the queue and speak with the next available officer. Does that sound familiar to anyone?)

The problem I have is that Global Entry is linked to the Green Card, so I used it for two years, and haven't been able to use it since it expired.

Did they give you any guidance about that?

She said they said it was linked to her passport. Since she's not from one of the countries whose citizens can apply for GE without being an LPR, not quite sure what that means. The first time to try using GE itself will be in June, and for domestic flights in the meantime, hello TSA Pre-check! :-)

Not sure if this helps. I got into the 'new and improved' site for GE. Under their documents section, it says Edit...you enter the new expiration date of your Expired 2 year card by another year reflecting the extension letter. Will have to see if this works using the Expired Card or go the front of the line with GC+extension letter and explain to the IO?

Nice! So far, wife hasn't been able to use the kiosk, but she's been able to jump to the head of the line at customs. We'll have to try updating the document—now she's on a 6-month i-551 stamp because the extension letter has expired and ROC is still pending, but we can try entering that new date. Next time you travel, @NYCruiser, please do report back if you get a chance re: whether this works. :-)

Thanks for your travel experience update. Like me I did apply for GE while on GC ROC extension letter. It may be different in 2018 coz this thread was 2017, but since I applied in Aug, i have bot heard any news of moving my application to conditionally approved. Ive read on some threads if your ROC u won’t get an approval for initial GE application and one has to come back once 10-year GC is on hand, oh well, i hope I get somehow a conditional approval and see if ROC GC holders can indeed pass for GE. Anyhow, can i still apply for TSA-precheck if I have a pending GE application? Any thoughts pls? Thanks

If you do not have the 10 year Green Card no, the Kiosks cannot be used unfortunately. I tried using my expired card and it declined
