Certified copies from the courthouse are always good as originals, and it's good to note not every state/county treats theres the same. I never got my original back, as they scan in the divorce decree's and then hand over certified copies.

Certified copies from the family court were the only "originals" I had, and they were accepted at the embassy.  As a note, when I went to get copies at the court house, I could get up to 3 certified copies for the same price.  It might not hurt to ask when requesting your copies.

As we all know things change in Ukraine, depending who you speak to. For us, I had to have an apostle placed on my divorce....Check the Ukrainian web site, it might help you to be better prepared

Ukraine is a "Hague convention" country.....I remember that we had a problem with Divorce decree, because it was not Divorce certificate...

 

I hope this helps.....you can call your local Ukrainian Embassy if you still have questions.

 

The Hague Conference on Private International Law established the Apostille. An Apostille is an authentication certification, a stamp. The Apostille is designed for use among nations that participate in the Hague Convention. These joint regions are called signatory countries as formed by the Hague Conference on Private International Law . 
The Apostille only pertains to public documents. Primary examples of public instruments are marriage, birth and death certificates as well as court documents, patents and even diplomas. 
The United States of America, has been part of the Hague Convention since October of 1981. The Apostille, coming from the French and meaning certificate, is a uniformly condensed and simplified mutually agreed upon document usable and accepted by these convention nations. The Apostille seal proves validity and original signature source.

OK, Thanks very much for the information! We have submitted a certified-translated copy of the beneficiary's divorce papers with the K1 petition. And, I'm not sure if it was a divorce certificate.  But, I will ask her to make sure she gets a divorce certificate, and also puts the  Apostile seal on it in, in preparation for the potential interview.

By "Ukrainian web site", you meant the Embassy site? I was just wondering if there was a forum specifically for Ukraine applicants.
