First NOA copy can be used at customs instead of original ?

Hello,

 

We plan to make international trip soon and my gc is expiring on the day we are entering back USA.

 

Will the copy of NOA for extension of 1 year is valid at customs immigration as supposed to original ? 

 

Our trip is for 1 month and I plan to file right before we leave. In the meantime when Noa will come, my friend will scan and send to me. Upon entry to USA I will use this scanned copy at customs.

 

The reason m doing this way because I know biometrics appointment comes in a month and I don't want to miss it. So I am sending I 751 close to my trip departure.

The original extension is watermarked.

 

Your choice if you want to chance it, but I personally would not (and did not).

Why risk it? From the dates you present, looks like you are already eligible to file. File now, get your NOA letter in hand before your trip. If you are leaving in a month, there is good chance your biometrics would be scheduled before you leave but with the letter in hand you could easily do a early walk in with your trip itinerary if the biometrics is scheduled during the time you are out of US.

 

Besides that since you will be filing to VSC, I wouldn't delay the filing a single day. You'll quickly learn how slow they are.

Would help (everyone) a lot if you have your Timeline filed up. 

 

Scanned copy of your i751 NOA would obviously not work if the original is watermarked. If you're travelling to India or Asia, there's a chance the exiting immigration may hassle if you lack originals and the GC is expired.

Personally I wouldn't (and haven't risked it). I even have copies with me and back at home in the US but I do take the original. The problem will be coming back to the US both at your departure airport and at immigration in the US. I prefer not to have any risk with the IO at all. They really don't have any sense of humour. I do it by the book.

Doubtful, as it would still be valid until the end of that day.

Hopefully your flight won't get delayed....

 

You will have received your NOA1 from your ROC submission which extends your GC  by that point. You have submitted your ROC ? 

Once you've submitted your ROC and got that first response back your GC (potentially expired) is effectively your immigration status document. I'm not saying don't carry an expired GC but that's what it is - expired. The one that matters to immigration is the extension.

 

I would certainly not fly anywhere if my GC was expiring and I didn't have that extension letter.

I travelled back from the UK and brought my expired GC and a copy only of my extension letter.  I was told off because the copy lacked the security features of the original (I guess a watermark and maybe something else).  I was sent for secondary inspection and and admitted after 30 mins of waiting, but next time I'll definitely bring my original (even if it has red wine stains on it )
