Anyone from MENA countries will go through a standard AP generally. Some can be days, some weeks, some months or longer.

Whether having a chemistry background or education has anything to do with it is hard to say; but it could make them take a longer look at you to make sure it's all legitimate.

As to your other question about the common name, again it's standard to go through an AP.

Pakistan is South Asia, not MENA

Also AP is NOT standard, just more likely.  Most applicants, (both MENA and South Asian) male and female complete the process without true AP.

Certain fields of study do increase the likelihood of AP, a chemistry background is one such field

A common name can certainly increase the chances of AP

But once again AP, true AP is not standard, it is just higher probability from certain countries

Having a chemistry background is not alone a reason for AP (I was approved on the spot, even with a work background that could/should have been a trigger), but together with being from a high-risk country or other factors it might.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Hey Shayan,

You should check out the Administrative Processes (AP) sub-forum here on VisaJourney. In particular there's a thread documenting many people's experiences in going through AP at the Islamabad embassy. You should probably look through that thread to get some idea of how long it might take.

Wishing you the best!
