Hello everyone, me and my wife will be flying to LA from Houston  for passport renewal and ROM application. I saw in the requirements that they need original or certified true copy of marriage certificate. We got married in the courthouse and they only gave us the Marriage License signed by the Judge who conduct our marriage. Will they still accept it as a requirement? They said in Texas the license is also the certificate but it does not include there how many times we did get married.  I will appreciate all of your help. Thanksss

Not sure how it is done in Texas, but in the two different states I have been married in, the marriage license must be taken to the county recorder after the marriage to be entered into records there, it is then that you can request certified copies.

Got married in Texas and did my ROM in LA last year.

I submitted all docs, including the affidavit for late submission (or whatever it's called) and they initially had a problem with my marriage certificate because they kept insisting that it's just a license. I had to read to them the part where it said that once a judge signs it it's considered a certificate. The county just mailed us the original certificate with the seal a few days later and that's what we use.

You can also do same-day ROM in LA as long as you get there before noon. We got there before noon but I didn't want to have to go back for the documents later in the afternoon so I just left a self-addressed and stamped envelope with them. I received the docs with the certified ROM form about a week and half later.

Also to go along with what Sagot said: I think the only consulate that allows same day ROM and passport renewal is the Washington DC Consulate.

You can complete ROM and passport renewal at the consulates.  We did this during an outreach event for the LA consulate.

The embassy in Washington DC can be the picky bug*ger, so I have read

DC Consulate doesn't allow same day ROM and Passport filing. They require ROM is complete first for everything.  That's what I don't get that each Consulate makes their own rules.

Wife was able to file ROM and renew her passport on the same day at the LA consulate this summer.

Well see that's the thing I have heard a couple different things and like Greenbaum said alot of times what works at one consulate does not work at another consulate. It's like they go by a different set of rules.
