Yes, it's ok... it may even speed up your ROC, since the N-400 can't be processed before ROC is complete, so if there is an N-400 filed, it forces USCIS to adjudicate the I-751.

 is that so? I thought perhaps they will just place N-400 on hold or even deny it until ROC is complete.

I'm still going back and forth trying to decide about filing N400. It is very important my esposo gets his citizenship ASAP, so I've heard waiting until the 10 year GC is better. But I'm worried (not sure if it's justified or not..) that within the next few months our president might make the requirement for citizenship a) more difficult or b) have to wait longer period of time. So I want to submit ASAP so our application is in and can't be changed. But I also want to wait for GC...

I'm with you on this. Waiting for 10-year GC looks like the better option in terms of having a smoother USCIS processing. However, considering the present climate around citizenship policy (potential changes), I think having the citizenship application in the pipeline ASAP is not a bad idea. The benefit of getting it (versus not getting it if there is a change in policy) outweighs the possible huddles of having both applications being processed simultaneously.

I would do this in a minute if we didn't have to be in Australia during June, July and August for medical procedures.  We cannot risk the chance that we'll get called for an I-751/N-400 interview during those months!  For those of you who can stay put in the US, I think you should go for it!

 

It looks like the N-400s are taking at least six months - but I don't know if you jump the queue if you put the I-751 and N-400 together.

So you both think getting in the N400 ASAP is the best option, for those of us that can stay in the USA during processing?  My goal is to have a husband with a US passport by the end of this year.  I think that will be possible even if we are delayed.  I mean seriously, I'll be shocked if we're not delayed!  We've been delayed EVERY.SINGLE.STEP.

 

But anyways... He'll be available for interviews if necessary.  And our field office is very close to where we live so it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience either. (of course I say that now...)

Or wait... what if we sent in an incomplete application.  Like missing a signature or check or something.  Would that count as we had applied, but give us a little more time to wait until the GC was approved so we could submit nearly the same day it's approved?

I was dead sure I would file N-400 the moment I become eligible but now I'm thinking I might as well just wait the extra 2 or 3 months. That will buy me some time to get a few things in order, like paying off Uncle Sam. I should be good as long as I have a payment plan but I prefer to go in with nothing owed. Now, as far as upping the ante for citizenship goes, this has been on my mind as well but I doubt we'll see anything in this department in the form of an executive order. Changes would be more likely as part of a comprehensive plan. If there's an executive action on this I doubt it will stick. Just look at the travel ban. Of course, that's just my opinion, everyone is welcomed to weigh in with their own.

 

In the event something does happen with naturalization requirements, my N-400 application is filled out and ready to go. I'd just need to print, sign, date and mail. I imagine there may a small window of opportunity especially if memos are leaked.

I also just got a reply today:

Updated processing times have been posted. VSC now processing cases from February 15, 2016 as of January 31 2017. Vermont is cooking with gas now.

Private One - I know you are private, but are you the US Citizen?  I laughed out loud at your "cooking with gas" reference!!!  I wasn't sure if that was an American saying or not!!!!    I've used it (I'm the US Citizen), but I didn't know it was used elsewhere....

I'm not the US Citizen my wife is. After 17 years of living here it sure feels like it though. I left the homeland just before my 19th birthday but I've been coming to the US to vacation since I was 14. I'm Americanized so most things (customs/culture etc) are second nature to me now but there are still instances when I'll need to pause and use the "American Term" instead of the "English Term".  For example, I still find myself referring to "cookies" as "biscuits" and "soccer" as "football" (as it should be called ...lol) when having conversations with born Americans. I'm West Indian so my English comes from Great Britain. Australia's English vs the US English, I'm sure your spouse can relate. Hopefully, you've been easy on her (lol).
