Does this mean you can file for n-400 prior to receiving 10 year? I was told I had to wait to receive the 10 year (even if already eligible for N-400) before filing for N400.

There's plenty of people that have done it. Here's a link to a recent thread about it, but if you run a search you will find plenty of threads:

I sent a copy of my now expired GC together with the extension letter. I didn't have the approval letter yet when I sent my package. What I am not sure about is whether or not I need to send a copy of my 10 year GC when I receive it...

Yes, you can file N-400 once you are eligible. Include photocopy of your old (conditional) GC and approval letter for ROC in your application. I sent my package last Friday and my check was cashed today. I just got my 10-year GC yesterday. @Private One did the same.

What! Wow. My lawyer specifically told me that I cannot file for N-400 until the conditions are removed. My NOA date is 4/28/16 so supposedly, I should be receiving it soon.

However, as of last week, I was able to file for N400 (90 days before I hit the three year marriage mark).

I hope I make sense. I'm not very familiar with all the acronyms and form names.

Yes, you can file for citizenship if you would like.  Many people are going that route.

What your lawyer should have said is that USCIS cannot adjudicate N-400 until they make a decision on I-751. However, that doesn't mean that they can't work on both concurrently. Ultimately, they must decide on ROC first before approving N-400.

Hi guys,

I have a different question for all ROC approved people here. I see majority of people who got approval on time (1year) or early are the ones who applied  from their home country in first place, so is there any one applied from Us while they were out of status with overstayed visa that RoC approved on time or early?

Because I think people who were here with overstayed visa when they got married with US citizen then applied for GC having longer and more difficult path.

I'm puzzled.  Some of you got either emails or text messages when your cards went into production/were mailed, right?  Our status changed yesterday to "in production", but we've gotten NO emails.  Julie did not offer a cellphone number, as we do not get cellphone access at our (very rural) home.

Has EVERYONE (but us) who has had a status change gotten an email and/or text?

Thank you all for this info. Really is an eye opener. I just sent my lawyer an email.

I provided my cell number and email but received no texts just emails. And I did not receive an email when the card was mailed. Just when it went into production.

I've seen some people never get status changes, emails, or texts.  The approval letter and then the GC just show up.

VSC

Received my approval letter yesterday (4/26).  postmark said 4/24.

Approval Date was 4/20

I'm due to travel out of the country in a week's time - super-psyched that I didn't have to leave country still in limbo. I got a same-day infopass appointment (turned up at 7am).  they gave me an I-551 stamp for 60 days (so 6/26).  I'm traveling again in early July, so I asked if I could have a 3 month stamp and they refused - but were nice about it - saying that I should have received the new card by then and that I could come back for another stamp if any problems .

It seems so ridiculous to me that they won't just give a stamp (earlier than they think we need it or for longer than they think we need it). It's a freaking **stamp**.  They make us wait so long for the GC, don't generate an extension that lasts long enough then (no matter how nicely they say it) tell us we can "just come back." Meanwhile it sometimes takes ages to get an appointment, and we have to miss work to go to the appointment(s), when the delay (the reason we need these appointments in the first place) is their fault because they're taking so long!!

Yup - that is about the long and short of it.

I do think an obvious improvement on the current system would be if the approval letter could be its own temporary authorisation to travel. It seems bizarre that once your conditions have been removed, you immediately lose the ability to leave the country...  I guess the issue is that our legal status has changed from CF1 to IF1 and so the original Green Card is completely invalid - but it would be a nice innovation...

I got 4 texts (all at the same time) and 1 email. However, I'm not sure if the website said the card was in production before that, since I didn't check prior to receiving the notifications.

All they said was that the 'Status has changed' about a week after I received the approval letter, so that's when I checked.
