I had an infopass appointment and spoke with a USCIS officer in the Boston office today. The officer stated that the 1 year extension applies to the date of expiry on the green card. I did not get the stamp on my passport today because I was asked to come back 1 month before the date of expiry on the green card.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for update.

Now I don't know whether to go to the infopass appointment, they may not stamp my passport. I was planing on traveling until May and my extension expires mid May, so I suppose I'll need to cross the border before that. I'm just worried about the officer's interpretation of the letter.

Yes , maybe because we moved twice and relocated to a VSC state , so it probably got transferred to VSC office who then sent the Approval letter to us.

I would call up and ask if they can tell you if they mailed anything to you. Let them know what happened.

I just renewed my passport because I wanted to change it to my married name and they've already dispatched it - yay! So I was wondering, when can I book an infopass appointment? Does it have to be within a certain number of days before the date on my GC?

How many of us are coming seriously close to the 12 month extension? I know most people applied the instant they were able to, but I didn't have time until the last couple of weeks of my temporary GC. So the date on my letter is the 4/14, and the date on my GC is 4/19. I've got an infopass appointment on Wednesday.
