I just thought of another question that kind of ties into this. What happens to a Canadian's credit after moving to the US? I'm sorry but I don't know what happens and whether or not credit scores are global or just per country, etc.... My Canadian fiance's credit is spotless and has insane credit limits and I would hate for him to take a hit after moving. He asked me a few minutes ago what would happen to his , and I didn't know how to answer!

Unfortunately, once he's in the US, he'll have to start from scratch unless he's got an American Express creidt card, or other US bank credit card like MBNA/Bank of America.

In the US, our credit scores are all tied to our SSN. He doesn't have one yet, so does not have a credit score.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Another good reason to keep a Canadian credit card and bank account open until he has been able to establish credit in the US. One of the fastest ways for him to establish credit here is to piggy-back him on one of your credit card accounts - he will then get credit of having your credit rating.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

the info here was interesting , I thought.

I got here when we entered the discussion of a mortgage. I wondered if my husband could purchase a house in the US now , before he moves, on a short term mortgage of maybe 5 years then refinance in the US once he's had the chance to gain a US credit rating.
