How long does it typically take for them to begin filing my packet? We filed both forms and put them in the mail on 12/22. I also filed the form to be notified via email when they receive my forms but I haven't received an email and they still haven't cashed the checks I sent for the filing fees.

Hey there, I would not encourage you to be worried as yet, the week of December 19th is slowing picking up from the 5th of January, but do bare in mind that your package would be received on the 23rd or after which would have taken USCIS some more time due to the changes to fees and forms and other updates on there websites. But you can check out this thread below to keep up with December AOS filers like myself. I would suggest giving them until the end of this week, if check not cashed or no NOA you could always give them a call. Best of luck!

AOS/EAD&AP Timeline

▪12/19/2016: AOS & EAD/AP mailed. (Day 00)

▪12/21/2016: Package signed for at Chicago Lockbox. (Day 02)

▪01/06/2017: Text/Email notification of acceptance confirmation from USCIS. (Day 18)

▪01/10/2017: Physical mail NOA received. (Day 22)

▪01/21/2017: Received Biometrics Appointment via mail (Bio. Appointment 01/30/2017). (Day 33)

▪03/01/2017: EAD/AP approved/sent for production. (Day 70)

▪03/06/2017: Received approval receipts by mail for both EAD & AP. (Day 75)

▪03/08/2017: Received EAD/AP combo card. (Day 77)

Thank you, I'll wait this week out! What number should I call if I do call them?

Also, I was advised on here that as long as my package was postmarked 12/22 that I would still get by with checks for the previous filing fee instead of the new higher rates. Can you confirm this?

You're welcome, you could call USCIS customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

I do see a lot of confusion with the new fees, but once postmarked or mailed before 12/23 you will be okay. They will simply look at the date this package was mailed off, which will show the 12/22. May I ask when exactly was your mail delivered? and also the G-1145 form for notification will be sent when they actually accept your forms and cash the checks not when the package was delivered. I'll attach a reference below in regards to December 23rd.

-USCIS published a final USCIS fee rule on October 24, 2016 [81 FR 73292]. The new fees became effective 60 days later, on December 23, 2016. "Applications or petitions mailed, postmarked, or otherwise filed on or after December 23, 2016 must include the new fee."-

I'm getting worried!

It usually takes between 10-17 business days to receive a response from USCIS but due to the Christmas and New Year break it may take a bit longer. I'd advice you to be patient. Once it's not over 30 days it will be considered as normal processing time and that is the only information you'll get from calling USCIS if your application is under 30 days..

I mailed our packet on Dec 14th, didn't arrive until the 20th in Chicago and I only received the NOA via text and email (no mailed hard copy yet) on Jan 4th. I was also getting a little worried as it seemed to be slower than many people's timelines I'd seen, but it definitely seems things are slow bc of the holidays etc. I would expect you to get your electronic NOA sometime this week if your schedule is at all similar to mine. Take care!

What's RFIE? My son is 15. Do you know if can he apply for citizenship after this?
