Actually I wrote him about this using the White House contact page. Fixing USCIS is right up Trump's alley as a manager and cost-cutter, but I think the administration has other priorities at the moment. The issue isn't just understaffing but old fashioned systems and processes: apparently they have wasted a billion dollars

on an upgraded system by IBM and got very little to show for it. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/a-decade-into-a-project-to-digitize-us-immigration-forms-just-1-is-online/2015/11/08/f63360fc-830e-11e5-a7ca-6ab6ec20f839_story.html

Not exactly up his alley, they're self funded.

I-765 Application for Employment Authorization Based on a request by a qualified F-1 academic student. [(c)(3)] July 28, 2016

These Processing Times issued by USCIS gives you an estimate of how long it will take the Potomac Service Center to process a class of petitions or applications. USCIS generally processes cases as they are received ("first in, first out"). USCIS has also developed internal goals for most types of petitions and applications. For example, the stated goal for Form I-129's (H-1B petitions) is 2 months.

How to use the Processing Time Report:

  1. Check your receipt notice (I-797C, Notice of Action) and make sure that the receipt number begins with "WAC".
  2. Look for the Form number or Purpose for your petition or application.
  3. Look for the specific Sub-type for your petition or application, if applicable.
  4. Check the column titled "Now Processing Cases with Receipt Notice Date of". If you see a date, the Service Center is currently processing cases filed on or before that date. If you see "X" months, it means that the Service Center is processing cases within their internally-developed goal time frames.

If you find that your case is outside "normal" processing times, you can contact USCIS Customer Service.

NOTE: If you received a notice from USCIS informing you that the case has been transferred from the Potomac Service Center to another Service Center or Local Field Office, check the processing times for the destination Service Center or Local Field Offices

that's what I've heard, they are also more or less ''lone wolves'' and don't like a lot of external support, a lot of companies have expressed interest in making the process faster/ investing money, but they are not interested. I can only imagine how crazy their offices are, with the sheer amount of petitions and all being done on paper and reviewed by people, one by one.  The idea of going digital was a good one, but they sure messed up by hiring IBM  :D one form out of like, 90? and double the original budget, without results? that sure sounds like IBM.

So a lot of September 2016 Nebraska filers got transfered to Potomac, arguably to speed things up. But it seems to be hitting the 7 month mark just as the rest of the centers, guess to not make it even more than 7 because of the backlog? that's crazy. I hope they find a way to deal with this, although I won't be holding my breath!

This is just wrong....people should not have to wait this long and it's chaotic and inconsistent...i do not know what to believe at this point other than the system is flawed and it's 2017 they should have a smooth process for all

Trump is working in our behalf. During his address to Congress he Mentioned Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas and the Raise Act sponsored by Senators Cotton (R AR) and Perdue (R GA). The Raise Act renews first priority to the Nuclear Family (Us) and reduces total immigration by about 50-Percent. Senator Cotton is a Veteran, Harvard Lawyer and rapidly went from the House of Representatives to the Senate. I suspect the Raise Act is Trumps Immigration Reform Act.

We are not being treated fairly because of the prior administration wanting to change the population characteristics of our Country.

My experience is that USCIS since 2002 has had emphasis in other issues rather than restoration of the Nuclear Family. The K3 and K4 Visa's were a part of the Life Act with the intent to reduce separation times for the Nuclear Family. Our problem also existed in Spades in 2002. Perhaps a common letter, with real Statistics, to Senator Cotton and Perdue could help.

Here's a fact, during the government shutdown USCIS still functioned, why? because they're self funded. Its funding is not dependent on annual appropriations from Congress

Regardless of how they're funded, responsibility for managing USCIS falls under the Executive Branch and the White House.

There are a lot of easy wins that could be had, for example algorithmically risk scoring applications and sorting them into high-touch/low-touch, to gain some efficiency in how much labor is utilized per application. Also, cutting an expensive IBM boondoggle program would allow USCIS to use those funds for other things such as hiring more staff. Letting USCIS run so long with no oversight is exactly why they are in the mess they are in now.

I am a student and I work part time. In order for my husband to live with me we have to live off campus. I told them in order to establish a residence with my husband , I would have to live off campus apartment is not covered under my scholarships. So it would be an out of pocket expense for my husband and I. I make enough to cover about 80 % of the rent but the rest would be covered by my husband. The apartment is giving me until July 31st to back out of my lease without penalty. If I do no tell them before the cut off date they will charge me the full year  Which will be around $7,000 dollars Which is an income loss of more than 75%. I provided them with a letter from my apartment and a statement from my school with what my scholarships cover.

Expedited for USD$ 7000 - somepeople have to pay more than that for legal services ...... WELL DONE .... studying business by chance? you have a future .... :D

Okay, our case was filed August 16th. As of today, when I log into my case status on USCIS, it does not show any updates beyond case received. However this morning I received our APPROVAL letter, with an approval date of February 28th. This week long delay in being approved and receiving our notice... their failure to update our status online resulted in us having to change our plans to move due to housing. Our deadline for giving notice to our landlord was two days ago. I can only laugh and assume that everything will work out in our best interest. It's hard not to be annoyed, but I'm over here with my husband, not waiting on bureaucrats to put our family back together. I can't wait to see my family back home though. All my sisters babies I haven't even met yet.....

So, our case status hasn't been updated, but here we are, approved and on to the NVC. Maybe others of you will also get letters before any updates.

Okay, our case was filed August 16th. As of today, when I log into my case status on USCIS, it does not show any updates beyond case received. However this morning I received our APPROVAL letter, with an approval date of February 28th. Just a look ahead for those waiting at Nebraska: I know when I was getting close to the end of my time at Nebraska I was curious about the next steps and the time frames for my petition being sent from Nebraska and when the NVC stage would be starting. Sometimes it is hard to find current information on how long that particular stage of the process takes and it is nice to be current.

We were approved Feb 17, with PD Aug 2. It seems that Nebraska currently sends approved petitions out in batches every two weeks. So how long you wait for USCIS to send your approved petition to NVC depends on when USCIS last sent out the petitions. For example, I was approved 1 week after they had last sent out approved petitions, so I had to wait 1 week after my petition was approved for USCIS to send my petition to NVC. If you are approved right after they last sent out approved petitions to NVC, you have 2 weeks of waiting before USCIS sends your petition over. If you are approved right before USCIS is due to send out petitions again, you do not have to wait any time between petition approval and your petition being sent out.

Once your approved petition has been sent to NVC, it takes about a week for it to be received. My petition was sent from USCIS on Feb 24 and was received by NVC on March 3. Once NVC receives the petition, it can take up to 2 weeks for the case number to be assigned. Hope that helps clear up the transition from Nebraska to the NVC and the time it takes.

How did you find out about that two weeks gap?

I had to do some digging around the forum, but I found a trend with what others at Nebraska were experiencing after following many timelines and going through a lot of threads. Following those profiles, you can see that going back a few months there is a trend of about 2 weeks between batches.

I was also analyzing a lot of receipt numbers last month, right before my I-130 was approved, by plugging in the receipt numbers on the USCIS website. The site tells you the date the cases were sent to NVC, and I noticed that many were sent on the same day, at 2 weeks before the date my case was then subsequently sent. So following the trend, they should be sending another batch of approved petitions out this Friday.
