Officer was very nice and asked some straight forward question:

to me: the same question.

to my wife: have you learned naything from his language?

asked me for picture album, officer skimmed pictures and was turning album pages very fast.

when finished, I asked do you want to look at my documents? No, pictures are enough, there is no need to look at the documents.

officer: we done

me: !! 

officer: I am convinced, and want to issue your card.... but your background check is still incomplete. i am gonna send the card to your address as soon as i receive your background check.

I am shocked how my background check is still incomplete!! cause i thought people who go to interview their background check is already done.

If anybody had experience about this or heard about this please let me know. 

 

 

At the end of our interview we were told that there were some background pending as well. The officer said it could take anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple days. 

I never got any stamp on my passport either. 

that is normal!!!

It took them until the end of the day to have any update. G.C. Arrived in the mall one week later.

Hello VJ family--

 

Does anyone have information about how to maintain one's U.S. LPR status while working overseas? Is that even possible?

 

Also, is there any way to expedite the security checks? I've been researching online and it looks like only the "requesting agency" can do so (in our case, USCIS), but I don't know how we can put in a request for that to be done. Based on my research, it looks like even congresspeople don't have that power. Perhaps this is just a case of waiting for our case to be 60 days beyond normal processing time so we can contact the ombudsman?

While working, it should be on a contract that shows an end date, ex. Sept 2017-sept 2018, basically a sure return date and not indefinite. You should keep things like bank accounts, mail, cc statements, etc, active and based in the states. 

 

I think there here is a re entry permit for this as well. It gives you over 6mo but no more than 2yr away that can be gotten in advance. Yes, we have looked into this also with the political climate quickly going down the pooper LOL. 

 

Im a firm believer that with all things expedite it's a matter of saying the right things to the right person....maybe that person is a floor supervisor at the local office? 

 

I need the research the whole

ombudsman thing thing because I'm honestly clueless about how that works.

Thanks, Sparkles! Yes, we are definitely working on a "Plan B." It's not even so much about when we get the GC anymore...just a sad state of affairs when looking at the reality of our country now. 

 

I don't know much about ombudsman, either, but I did read that cases should be at least 60 days past normal processing times for the local office before the ombudsman would take on the case.

hey friends

yesterday I got two updates:

the first one : " new card is being produce"

 

couple of hours later:

second update " Case was approved. we approved your form  i-485 application for for permanent residence and will send you the notification.

 

Now,  my online status just shows the second update.

 

anybody knows why they changed it?

I am so confused. 

When I'm looking for a civil surgeon what is the difference between a civil surgeon who says they don't do any of the screenings, but will sign the form for a (lower) cost, than a civil surgeon who says they do both the signing and the screenings? 

In what instance would someone ONLY need the form signed? I thought they ALL required the Civil Surgeon to screen and sign?

Someone who already has proof of vaccines and just needs medical records either translated or transcribed could probably get just the form sign off. Not totally sure, but having worked in healthcare before this would be my guess. They already have valid TB tests, shot records, etc ready to go. The lower cost is of course because the person wouldn't be paying for the vaccines and such. 

 

I would go to a screen and sign, they will dial down the cost based on thing you don't need also.

So guys, my local office is processing May 2, 2016.....and I've had a theory about our AOS for a while. Which was that even though we filed in March, we got an RFE which was sent back and received in May 10. I'm interested to see if we get an interview notice in the next 4 weeks. If so, it could prove my theory right. Same thing basically happened to our i130, it did not begin the processing time til after a transfer to another service center, and once that happened the times matched up from that transfer date. Hope I made sense!!

That sounds like a reasonable guess to me. My feeling is that after the initial review of your file and subsequent discovery of something missing, they sent you the RFE and put your application in a "to be reviewed later pile." After receiving your RFE response, the file was considered complete and put with other received/completed applications at whatever time they received it (sounds like May 10). Makes perfect sense! So, fingers crossed for you guys getting your interview date in the next few weeks.

So...I completely freaked out my hubby last night (totally unnecessarily) because I can't keep my thoughts/worries to myself. Yesterday, a friend in the Twin Cities posted a local news article on FB about law enforcement stopping vehicles based on suspicion of immigration violations (SO illegal!!) here in Minneapolis. I started worrying about what would happen if someone questioned my husband, because he doesn't have his GC yet and some (most) law enforcement officers seem clueless about the K1/AOS process. I mentioned to him that maybe he should carry a copy of the USCIS-issued receipt indicating that his I-485 is currently being processed and maybe also a copy of his EAD/AP card because I don't want him to show the real card in case someone confiscates it.

 

Well, now he's totally freaked out about his status and I feel terrible. These are just my highly irrational worries that I should have kept to myself, because he's dealing with enough as it is! Any thoughts about damage control? He does know that I'm a worrier and tend to blow things out of proportion when I'm stressed. He seemed OK last night, but again this morning seemed kind of down. UGHHHHH. Why can't I keep my mouth shut?!?!?!

As someone who has been through an ICE home visit, if you're stopped or questioned at all, he needs to carry that document with him because a photocopy can be faked. In fact I think by law they must carry it, but don't quote me. Also he has an A number. If they ever were to stop him (highly unlikely!!), they would at worst hang onto him for a little bit and get ICE to confirm he is in process with that A number.

 

Drill it into him that he is "on stay authorized by the attorney general pending adjustment of status", which is the technical term but his status is 100% fine. Don't be worried. You guys need a nice date night to de stress.....that is what we do after I have a nuclear level freak out. We pick something like the melting pot or benihana that is also fun plus good food

I have those way more frequently than before the political climate started to change. I think we all do.
