Hello everyone, I have a question to the people who have had interviews recently. Do the Embassy and COs keep your I-864 and copies of Financial documents (Transcripts, Tax Returns,1099 and W2s) and copies of birth certificates and Domicile Evidence or do they just make copies of them and give you all your documents back at the end of the interview? Thanks so much :)

They did neither look nor collect anything beside my original birth certificate, our original marriage certificate, my police certificate and the evidence I brought. The officer (training the new officer) mentioned that they didn't need anything else, as it already had been uploaded and verified in CEAC.
I had brought the copies of everything listed, but it seems a lot of it was in vein.

They took copies and handed all originals back to me. Interview date was May 28th, 2020.

hey,

I just received an email from the NVC. They are telling me that they are cancelling my husband's appointment but they never gave us an appointment. that's weird. what does it mean? they are saying that they will schedule one as soon as possible.

You'll be getting an interview appointment very soon. Read earlier in this thread. Normal modus operandi presently.

An update from our side...

My husband had his interview this morning in Stockholm -- his appointment was at 9:30am. We arrived early (9:05) and he was asked to wait outside (there are seats outside) until they called him, which was at 9:40. That's when he entered the Embassy/security. I waited outside the whole time. He came back out around 11:05am. His visa was not approved at this time/additional administrative processing is required.

Yesterday, the Embassy sent him an email (that he missed while we were traveling to Stockholm) with information about the pre-paid waybill we needed to provide, to have his passport/documents returned to him in Copenhagen. Since he didn't provide the waybill, he was sent with instructions of how to do so -- we completed this right away.

From our understanding, the reason he was not approved was due to the officer questioning the validity of his (original) birth certificate. The officer retained his passport, original birth certificate, and the certified translation.

There was a female who performed his document check -- he didn't feel that she was that friendly (e.g. she created confusion when she thought he didn't speak English -- he is fluent). She asked him multiple questions about his original birth certificate (e.g. when and how he got it ... it's literally the original ...). She asked him about my employer (an international public organization, i.e. United Nations agency), if my income is paid for by Danish authorities (no) or the UN (yes), and if my job is transferrable to the US (yes). She claimed there was a discrepancy with his mother's maiden name on the documents (there isn't) and that there would be to be a correction (I still don't understand why). To add insult to injury, his mother died several weeks ago. That's not info that was relevant to update, apparently.

The interviewer was male and ultimately told my husband that there is no issue with the legitimacy of our relationship (questions were asked about how we met, where we met, how he asked for my phone number, if he'd met my family, how many times, when was the last time he saw them, where/when we got married, how long we've lived in Copenhagen, how long we lived together before Copenhagen, where we lived before, what I did for work when we met, my age.....etc.).

Anyway, we're both rather disappointed, but... we'll wait and see.

I got the same impression of the female conducting the document check. She goes very strictly by the rules. I was also put on administrative processing at first, but the matter was resolved within 2 weeks and I got my visa. I wouldn't worry too much, this issue with your husband's birth certificate ought to be a matter they can clear up. The male interviewer verifying that he sees your relationship as legitimate is, I think from having met him if it's the same guy (short, friendly), his way of saying everything will be alright, just give them a little bit of time to clear things up.

You can check your visa status here: https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx

The date for "Case Last Updated" will change every time someone touches your case, so you get a sense of if they are dealing with it or not. It's also the first place you will see when your visa has been issued, a couple of days before you actually receive the passport in the mail. We checked this place several times a day, it was a lifesaver when we were feeling nervous, wondering if we would be stuck in administrative processing or maybe even denied.

Yeah it was crazy fast. My status changed to "issued" on the 6th and I had the visa in hand the 7th. Never thought it would go that quick. But there was obviously not a pandemic going on back then either, that helped. And NO PostNord, the worst invention ever.
