My fiancé has decided to go on deployment, leaving this summer. We have not yet started the process, but will do so when I visit him right before he leaves. Since he will be gone for a year, the NOA2 will most likely come while he is in Afghanistan and I don’t know how difficult it will be to obtain everything from there. Is it possible to prepare all the paperwork for the next step already this summer? I’m thinking specifically of the affidavit of support and bank statements. How “old” can they be? I understand that we should just leave the date blank on the affidavit and I can fill that in later, but if we print for example bank statements, they will be dated.

I don’t know... I just read this under step 5:

You will need several items (for the above form). Gather duplicate evidence of income and resources as appropriate:

(A) Statement from an officer of the bank/financial institution with your deposits, identifying the following: 1. date account opened; 2. total amount deposited for the past year; 3. present balance
(B) Statement(s) from your employer on business stationary showing: 1. Date and nature of employment; 2. salary paid; 3. whether position is temporary or permanent (also include copies of your last two pay stubs and your previous W-2 for the associated employer if available)
(C) If Self Employed: 1. Copy of last income tax return filed (or IRS transcripts); or 2. report of commercial rating concern
(D) List containing serial numbers and denominations of bonds and name of record owner(s).

You won't need the bank account unless he doesn't make more than $16910/yr (for just the 2 of you, assuming no children or previously sponsored immigrants).

Oh, he makes more than enough to support me, but I thought an affidavit was “proof” that he does? Or the w2s are enough, just print outs that have not been signed? That would be a huge relief!

Yes, but the embassy can extend the validity of the i-129f approval if you guys need more time. They can extend it with 4 months at a time, for up to a year.

They likely do this automatically, but I wouldn't take a chance if I were you. I would email the embassy and request an extension to be on the safe side.

It's at this stage you can "buy more time" if there are things you need to finish up in your home country before moving. Once the visa is issued it has to be used within 6 months from the date of the MEDICAL. So remember that if you try to buy more time - do NOT have your medical too soon, as that's the date your Visa expiration date will be based upon.

Let's say you do the medical on May 30, but only have your interview on October 10 and the visa is issued on October 15, that means your Visa will only be valid for about 2 weeks.

Ok thank you :) there is so many questions I think of.

So for the last 2 years my fiance has been taking care of his mother and was getting paid through the government to do so. She passed away 2 days after this last Christmas but has not yet found work, it seems to be difficult in Norway. Will this affect the approval of the visa?

Are you the US citizen or he is? If you’re the US citizen as far as I know it’s no issue because it’s only the US citizens income that matters (since the beneficiary income doesn’t count unless the income from the same job would continue in the US as well)

Our CR1 Journey:

USCIS Stage:

  • Feb 14 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • July 31 2019: I129f NOA1
  • Sep 19 2019: I129f NOA2 (Denied - 50 days from NOA1)
  • Sep 19 2019: I130 NOA2 (Approved - 217 days from NOA1)

NVC Stage:

  • Sep 27 2019: Sent to Department of State
  • Oct 31 2019: Case number received (34 days since sent)
  • Nov 1 2019: IV & AOS fees received & paid
  • Nov 14 2019: IV & AOS submitted
  • Dec 18 2019: All docs accepted, but one additional doc requested (5 weeks from submission)
  • Dec 18 2019: Requested doc submitted
  • Feb 19 2020: Documentarily Qualified (9 weeks from 2nd submission, 14 weeks from first submission)

Interview Stage:

  • Mar 11 2020: Interview letter received
  • Apr 1 2020: Interview date
  • Mar 17 2020: Interview cancelled due to COVID-19
  • August 3 2020: Rescheduled letter received, new appointment August 25 2020
  • August 25 2020: Visa approved at interview! (558 days from NOA1)
  • September 10 2020: Embassy received passport in mail
  • September 15 2020: Passport with visa in hand

October 11 2020: Arrived in US!

Hello fellow Scandinavians.

Has anybody been through the Medical Office in Copenhagen to do their medical examination?

I tried to call them today to ask what the "Esta triggered visa application" exactly is, and the lady had no idea, even though it's on their own website.

Does anybody know what this document is?

And am i only able to schedule my medical when i get an interview date?

(Currently at the NVC stage)

You're doing CR1 right? ESTA has to do with the VWP program.  I'm assuming it is for someone who is not eligible for the visa waiver program and has to apply for a visitor visa. Not applicable for you if you're doing CR1.

You should be able to schedule your medical as soon as you get the embassy case number by calling NVC or when the embassy sends out your checklist whichever you prefer. Calling NVC will give you the case number faster but I have heard it can be a hassle.

Hey all,

Couple of questions..

1. When does the $265 have to be paid for the Visa?

2. My fiance has to go to Oslo for his physical, he has to go for bloodwork, xray, urine at one place and then the physical at another, can this be done on the same day?

Also, in the email he recieved, it says at the physical place he has to pay with cash, card or can be billed. If he chose to be billed does it have to be paid off before the physical is sent to the embassy?

Can he set up the appointment for these before the NVC sends the paperwork?

3. Does anyone in Norway know how he goes about getting his police records, even if he doesnt have any?

4. I know one of the documents he needs to take with him is his ORIGINAL birth certificate, the only one he has it the one after his name change, a few years ago he changed his middle name and took his moms last name instead of his dads, and it has been certified, will this work? Or does he need the original original?

Thanks everyone! I dont know what I'd do without this group lol.
