Random question:  Any of you Danes renew your passport at one of the embassies in America?  My silly husband waited too long to go to citizen's services on our last trip to Denmark and they didn't want to do the passport without him being able to pick it up there.  Is it fairly easy to do here?

Hey Swedes!

Ive seen that I'll need a birth certificate once our K1 application gets to the embassy stage. People put a lot of emphasis on "original birth certificate" operative word being "original". I've never had a birth certificate, but I've now ordered and received one from Skatteverket. Is this considered "original"?

ill be going to the embassy in London if that matters! :)

thanks!

Original in USCIS language means one from the issuing agency, i.e. not a photocopy you made of it.

Did you get it from Skatteverket or did you print it at home? I'd recommend getting it directly from them, preferably with a stamp and a signature though I don't think it's a requirement. But then you're sure you won't get any hassle for having a "weird" birth certificate as Sweden doesn't have birth certificates.

Straight from Skatteverket. Not sure if it has a stamp or signature on it.. don't think it does. I'll have to check when I get home. :)

On a related note, are they going to need a Swedish version of the birth certificate and the police certificate at the London embassy or is it okay to only bring the English version?

2. välj - "Uppgifter om mig, vem jag är gift med, mina barn och mina föräldrar (Utdrag om folkbokföringsuppgifter - 120 med alla relationer)

Not sure how many of you Swedes know about the Swedish driver's license "issue" that is about to happen, so I just figured I could post about it in case anyone in here wants to renew their license.

Basically, there's this new suggestion that Transportstyrelsen will stop renewing Swedish driver's licenses to all Swedes who live outside of Sweden. This has been the rule for Swedes living in EU/EES countires for years already, and now the same rule will apply to the rest of us (USA, AUS and so on). This is just a suggestion afaik, but it will most likely go through and it will then be implemented from May 1 this year.

So, in case you want to have a Swedish driver's license, for whatever reason, you better apply now so you can at least have it for 10 more years. Many don't see the need to keep the Swedish one but others (like me) want to keep it for as long as it's possible.

You get the form by contacting the embassy or consulate or Transportstyrelsen. They will send you the form via regular mail, you can't download it. When it's ready you can pick it up at the consulate or embassy, you list where you want to pick it up on the form. The cost is $50.

I decided to renew both my passport and my drivers license because of my name change when I got married, I will pick both up tomorrow. The driver's license process is an easy and fast one, so if you think it's worth $50 to keep the actual card for another 10 years - do it. :) If not, you just drive and identify yourself with your American driver's license which works just as good in most cases, when you visit Sweden.

Kan tillägga att du INTE förlorar din körkortsbehörighet med denna nya regel. Det gäller bara själva kortet. Flyttar du tillbaka till Sverige igen kan du ansöka om nytt körkort utan att behöva avlägga förarprov.

k-1 here, Just got the checklist from Stockholm, :)  Quick question about  one item:

"

(  )           MILITARY RECORDS:  A certified copy of any military record is required, either stating that the military service has been completed, or that the applicant is exempt from serving.

"

not sure what to provide here.  fiancee has never served in military, and i dont think swe has mandatory service requirements.
