We're married!!!!

We got our marriage license Friday afternoon and just decided (literally Friday night) to go for it first thing Saturday morning! My dad was in town for the weekend so we found someone who could do it on short notice and my parents went with us to a local botanical garden. It was just a quick, simple thing. But it felt so good to make it official and put it on paper! We're still super excited and planning for the big wedding in October, but this is such a relief!!

I'll hopefully be able to take a day off midweek next week so we can make all our rounds to SS, DMV, etc. for all my name changes and all his updates. So exciting! LOL

Håll ut, y'all.

Hej,

I have just a quick question about the interview stage. I have some work related travel coming up over the summer months and I am wondering if there is any type of flexibility with the interview visa (CR1/IR1). Do they automatically choose the date for you? Also, if you want to reschedule your interview how does that work? I found a document on the Stockholm embassy website that said rescheduling an interview could take up to 6 months before being appointed a new one. Anyone have any experience with rescheduling an interview. Any help at all is appreciated.

Hej,

We sent an email to them saying that we had collected the required documents and scheduled the medical. They then replied with a suggested interview date 3 working days after the medical. I guess it all depends on how busy they are, but since we got ours so quickly, it seems to not be a big problem. My impression is that the embassy in Stockholm doesn't process so many cases, so there are lots of free interview slots. (I could be mistaken though)

Hi all,

Looking for some AOS advice from a Scandinavian standpoint (those who have gone through the medical in Sweden before).

When Paul had his medical prior to his interview with the embassy (which I think is the same doctor, for the most part, that all Swedes end up seeing for this), he was actually told to wait on a couple of vaccinations and have them done stateside. He said the doctor just told him it would be best/easiest.

We're starting to research the medical requirements he needs to fulfill stateside now for AOS filing, and we read somewhere on VJ that all you have to do is take your paperwork from the doctor in Sweden to a local civil surgeon in our state, and they fill out the I-693 based on that information. But then we read somewhere else on VJ that your pre-embassy medical is valid for 1 year after stepping on American soil and you don't have to visit a civil surgeon stateside. Those who have reached or completed AOS already - do you have any insight on this? Also, did anyone also have the doctor in Sweden advise to wait on some of the vaccines and if so, did that change anything about this part?

Tack!

Håll ut, y'all.

Came back to add more info (it's too late to edit my original post - sorry!)

During his appointment in Sweden, he got the vaccinations for DTP/DTaP, IPV, MMR, Varicella (History), and Influenza. What he did NOT get are the remaining vaccs under Code A: Rotavirus, Hib, Hep A, Hep B, Meningococcal, and Pneumococcal.

These are the ones he was told to wait and have done in the US. In reading a lot of AOS requirements posts, it sounds like it's easier if all the vaccinations are completed prior to entering the country, because you may not be required to even see a civil surgeon, so we are very confused and becoming frustrated.

Bottom line - I believe what we have to do is find a local civil surgeon, have the remaining vaccs completed, and complete a vaccination transcription...? This is what I'm hoping to clarify. And figure out where the I-693 fits into all of this, since I'm assuming this means his original medical will no longer be sufficient, independently.

Håll ut, y'all.

Was the DS-3025 marked completed?

I just sent my AOS package and as per the research I did, no I-693 is needed for K1s as long as AOS is filed within a year. I just attached my DS-3025 and that was it. I have not heard of any other vaccinations needed other than the ones that were already required at the time of the medical.

No, it wasn't. And what's annoying is he put the applicant "elected not to be vaccinated during the appointment", but that's not entirely true. I suppose there's no box for saying otherwise, but it's still annoying. Paul went to that appointment intending on getting all required vaccinations that day, but was told by the doctor he should wait for the others once he's here. And now we have no idea why, because at this point, it seems like that would've been much easier to have had them done then.

That is a strange recommendation from the doctor in my opinion. I thought the point was that during the medical you can get the vaccinations you're missing. Which one/ones are not completed for him?

That's how we are feeling now. Paul is kicking himself for not pushing back any at the time, but he was trusting the doctor. We didn't realize what it would result in at this point in the process.

Oh. Well him not getting the rotavirus, Hib, Hep B etc cannot be the reason that the form is not marked completed. I did not get those and mine was marked completed :) As far as I gather, DTP/DTaP, MMR, Varicella (History) and Influenza is all that is required if you're between 18-79 something. For AOS as well, unless I gave completely missed something :D

Did he have to get a second MMR shot possibly?

Did you have to get Meningococcal and Pneumococcal?

And no, I don't believe a second MMR shot was required.

If those you listed as all that's required for ages 18-79 were done, but his form was not marked completed... I wonder if that's still an issue. Did you have to get yours transcribed by a local civil surgeon before sending off AOS?

No I did not - sorry I was just too lazy to type all those names, but I got none of the following: Rotavirus, Hib, Hep A, Hep B, Meningococcal, or Pneumococcal. They're all waived 'A', not age appropriate, and I was not told I needed to get them later on. He would've had a 'B' waiver if he was missing one MMR shot.

I really can't see a reason that his was not marked complete if he fulfilled the requirements, like it seems he did. Maybe call the doctor's office today and ask?

Wow. I'm more confused LOL - not by you, what you're saying makes complete sense. But yeah - why would it not be marked complete if that's the case.

Yeah, I think Paul may need to call that doctor's office. I'm not sure what they can do at this point now that he's here, but...maybe at least clarify what he needs to do next.

Thank you so much for your input!!

No worries at all! Hope everything clears up so you can submit your AOS package soon. Let us know how it goes :)

thank you! I definitely will.

Paul's sending an email to the doctor in Sweden for clarification and I've been looking up local offices here we might could use/reach out to for information. It's such a headache on top of the already existing headache that is AOS, lol. I hope we find out what the doctor in Sweden was doing so we can understand where we're at.

That's how we are feeling now. Paul is kicking himself for not pushing back any at the time, but he was trusting the doctor. We didn't realize what it would result in at this point in the process.

I THINK what we have to do now is find a local civil surgeon, have the remaining vaccs completed, and complete a vaccination transcription - this is what I'm trying to find out. And figure out where the I-693 fits into all of this, since I'm assuming this means his original medical will no longer be sufficient, independently.

I wonder if they switched doctor because that sounds really weird. Which clinic did he go to? Stockholm or the other one? He doesn't even need all those vaccines, they're not for his age group.

I forget the doctor's name, but it was an office in Gothenburg. He said the doctor was one of the only two in Sweden, that he knows of, that does these medicals, and this doctor has been doing them (isn't new). So I don't know :(

That's so weird. I haven't heard anyone else who've gone to Gothenburg have this issue. He should know by now that unless someone skip all child vaccines or is under 18 or older than 65 (I think or if it's older) you won't need anything other than a refill tetanus shot.

It was Dr. Einar - I remembered after chatting with Liz in another thread.

Yeah, at the time we didn't think much of it. Paul said he was very casual and laid back about it, which at the time made him comfortable and trust his judgement. But now we're confused and frustrated. I feel like this has become more complicated than it should be. He's wishing he asked more questions at the time.

We found out we can submit AOS without this for now, and just note that medical is pending, and it'll be verified later. But since AOS is taking so long now (over a year for some), my new concern is if we do that... will his medical be considered outdated by the time we reach that point in AOS, since it's not being submitted upfront, and he'll wind up having to redo the entire medical. Now we're wondering if it's worth it to hold off on submitting AOS (which we are so ready to get over with so it can be pending and we can file his EAD/AP) in order to see a civil surgeon here to have his vaccination record reviewed, and possibly transcribed. I feel like either way, this will wind up taking longer than it really should and it's so frustrating.

Håll ut, y'all.
