Paul had his medical this morning! All in all, it seemed to go as well as it could have. Most importantly, he said the doctor (in Gothenburg) was very casual and friendly and made it seem less intimidating. He also seemed very confident in the process and what would happen next. He got poked and prodded a lot, and he has to go have the x-ray done in the morning, but all in all everything checked out.

He said there's a form or list the doctor has to complete that he sends to the embassy. Because the interview is next week, it's possible they'll make him wait another week or so to find out for sure if and when he's approved and will get his passport.

In my opinion, the Swedish medical is not too much to worry about! He said everyone was very nice and they do this physical all the time for immigration purposes and know what they're doing.

Yes, Einar is the best, very easy-going and down to earth. He also gives you a copy of the whole medical if you ask for it, so you can see the whole thing for yourself, all the results including the x-ray etc.

It took exactly two weeks on the day for the embassy to get my medical results from Gbg, so just like you say he will most likely not be approved at the interview but as soon as they get his medical. I had my medical on a Thursday and then the interview the following Monday, so I had to wait for a while myself. I think they issued my visa the day after they received the medical, so no crazy delay or anything.

Yes, he said he should be getting a copy of everything on a thumb drive, actually. As for the delay; it sucks, because we were initially under the impression that they prefer the medical and interview be around 5 days apart, if possible, which is why we scheduled it this way. Now that it's here, we're hearing it's best to give 2 weeks or so, if you want everything to be transferred over in time. It's not the end of the world - I'll still be in Gothenburg another week and a half after his interview, so it's still possible we'll know the final verdict before I leave :)

Yes that's really cool! And around the same time as well. I'm very much anticipating your approval @blenheim, so I can know what to expect from my own process :)

Ok sorry for bombing you with notifications this morning, but where are you in NYC if you don’t mind me asking? :) @blenheim

We have not decided exactly where to settle yet (he will be moving once I get there), but we want to be pretty central. I loved Brooklyn where we could run together in Prospect Park but it’s far from his job so he is more interested in a few neighborhoods in Manhattan. Either way we’ll be living in a shoe box I guess ;)

We are all probably looking at similar neighborhoods. We walked around Gowanus and a bit in Red Hook. I am in sales so I need my car to get out of the city, so ease of parking is an issue for us. We will probably end up in South Harlem or Hamilton Heights. The vibe there is great, not far from main subway lines (like red hook) and Hamilton Heights, although being freshly cool enough to be named and part of "Manhattan" gives quite the Brooklyn vibe. If you haven't already, you both should check it you!  Keep us posted on your visas, wishing you the best of luck with the upcoming appointments. One day we will have to celebrate in NYC.

Oh cool. No we have not checked out South Harlem/Hamilton Heights, but will do. I think he would like a direct subway line to WTC, but I'm not very familiar with the lines so to be honest. As for me, I have of course no idea where I'll be working but I'm just counting on a bit of a commute either way.

Good luck to you guys too! Yes we absolutely should. Good to have some other recently arrived American/Scandinavian couples in the area.

Jeez a huge good luck! Are you guys in Stockholm just for the night and tomorrow? Walk around a bit on Djurgården, get some coffee at Johan & Nyström, or have lunch at Crème (Nybrogatan). Let us know how it goes!

Cross posted-

I'm a bit worried that we're going to receive an RFE when filing for AOS as Norway does not have long form birth certificates. The only official birth certificates in Norway do not include information on parents and don't look very "official". Has anyone successfully filed AOS with a Norwegian birth certificate or does anyone know of other documents I can pick up to avoid an RFE? Or anyone here file successfully with the usual Norwegian birth certificate?
