For sure, though if you are at the NVC stage it is a safe bet you'll be interviewed before 6 months in most cases. If that is a concern, wait until CC.  Personally I wish we did ours in May.

Not a safe bet. Our NVC phase took eight months alone and we only got cc because Senator Cornyn got involved. Because of that, I had to pay for a second medical. I would advise everyone to wait with your medical until you have cc, because you just never know what's gonna happen. Plus the Embassy in Stockholm want medical and police certs valid for at least three months after the interview. I know that from personal experience.

I agree nothing is 100% with these agencies.  A safe bet is still a bet. I would have done the medical in May given what I know now. Your case is on the extraordinary side of things, it cant even Imagine what that would have been like.

Hi All,

Sent in the package for AOS from K1, the I-485 we got an RFE for not including the certificate of birth.

Very frustrating, since we submitted the correct document according to:https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country/SW.html

We submitted the "Personbevis" but the english version, that we got directly from Skatteverket, with wet stamp and seal.

We were thinking of submitting a response, outlining that the original document that we submitted, was the correct one.

Has anyone come up with this issue?

An alternative would be to submit the swedish version, with a translation.  However really want to avoid that, since we would have to request from Skatteverket, a swedish version with signature and seal.  Seems so round about since Skatteverket has a native english version.

Did you get the "Utdrag om folkbokföringsuppgifter – 120 med alla relationer –" ?

that's the one you're supposed to get. I see that the link doesn't specify that.

Just making sure. I have seen before where they get confused sometimes since we don't have an official certificate but rather an excerpt from the population register.

To make this clear I sent along this official webpage information from the issuing authorities.

https://www.skatteverket.se/servicelankar/otherlanguages/inenglish/individualsandemployees/livinginsweden/populationregistrationcertificate/commonrequestsfromforeignauthorities/informationtoforeignauthorities.4.361dc8c15312eff6fd13b6c.html

Which is referenced on the reciprocity page and explained how it works in Sweden.

Bottom of the page says

"International birth certificates or marriage certificates are not issued in Sweden, as is done in some countries. The document that corresponds to a birth certificate and a marriage certificate is the document Extract of the population register."

It has to show your parents' info as well, not sure if that's the one you sent already. Either way, yes other people have had the same issue and I was a little worried it would happen to me too so I contacted the Swedish embassy to find out if they could write an affidavit or something of the sort to explain that the personbevis is the true and only "bc" we have in Sweden. The response was that each Swedish consulate has a stamp you can get if you go to the consulate in person. They will stamp your personbevis as extra proof that it's a valid "bc". Since you're in Frisco it should be close enough for you since they do have a consulate there.

Yes,  we were. Different IO's will send rfe's without checking the documents properly unfortunately.

We wrote also on the cover letter

-Swedish birth certificate  (excerpt from population registry "personbevis" - as specified by reciprocity agreement, see also "information to foreign authorities" from official webpage of issuing authority"Skatteverket".)

Lol we didn't leave anything to chance - sorry about your rfe but should be an easy fix.

Yes I added an extra explanation too. I wrote something like "this is the only type of 'birth certificate' we have in Sweden" (don't remember the exact wording) on a post-it and attached it to the personbevis. Just like you I never received an RFE or had any other issues with mine. It's good to be very clear with USCIS, they do well if you explain things to them, haha.

Hi,

Just got our NOA2 and I'm from Sweden so was thinking if any of you maybe have some advice regarding the process after NOA2 and with the embassy in Sweden?

How long from NOA2 do you think it will take to get an interview date?

Thank you :)

Congrats! :)

Prepare your package to take with you to the embassy.

For me there was 2 months between NOA2 and interview :)

Start calling NVC in about 2-3 weeks to get your case number, you'll need it on your medical appointment. You can also book an appointment for the medical now if you wish, but remember to not do your medical too early as your visa will only be valid for 6 months from the date of your medical, not from the date of your interview. I remember that it was hard getting a medical appointment when I booked one last year so I was glad I called early. But I chose the clinic in Göteborg and it was vacation time also, so that obviously had an impact on the long wait to get an appointment.

I received my NOA2 around June 22 and the first available interview date was August 11 (the K-1 interviews are held on Thursdays, so there's only a few appointments each week).

Once your ceac status shows "ready" (you need your case number to check that status) the embassy has received your case and you can submit the DS-160.
