Okay, but when K1 applicants mention NOA2, is this the equivalent step to DQ in the CR process? Or am I getting that wrong?

NOA2 has nothing to do with NVC, it's just the i-129f approval notice from USCIS. USCIS does the same with the i-130, ie approves it so it can go to the NVC stage. For the K-1 route there isn't an NVC stage per se, it's just a temporary stop to provide the case with a case number. There is no "DQ" for a K-1 as the K-1 doesn't go through "adjustment of status" (or whatever you call it that leads to a greencard) during the visa process.

Understood - thank you for clarifying that!

So in terms of comparing priority dates for appointments at the embassy between the two visa types, is there any  way to do that?

No, nothing like that. And those who do K-1 have to schedule their own interview, which CR-1/IR-1 applicants don't.

Anybody currently waiting for case to be sent to embassy, or for interview to be scheduled - do you mind posting:

  1. Your visa type
  2. Your DQ date and date sent to embassy (CR1/IR1) OR the date your case was sent to embassy (K1)
  3. Your interview date (if a date was assigned)

I know it has probably ben done many times before, but some updated data would be great in terms of establishing current timeline.

For us, the data is:

  1. Visa Type: IR-1
  2. DQ: DQ March 2021, case not yet sent to embassy
  3. Interview: Not scheduled

Maybe a dumb question, but for the DS-160 when it asks what location am I applying for the Visa, would I use Stockholm or Copenhagen?

@dmeister3 I have a question if you don't mind.

I'm also from Denmark and applying for a K1 visa, and my application left the NVC on April 27th 2021...

I never received any notification that it arrived at the embassy in Stockholm, much less started on a DS160 form?

You say that your application left the NVC just 3 days before it arrived at the Embassy!? WHAT? What does that look like and how did you hear back from them? Are you already in the process of scheduling an interview?

I've been waiting for months and nothing? I'm so confused.

It would really help if you could tell me your situation. I'm worried my case was misplaced or got lost in the mail or something now...

I found this in a DoS meeting summary from June. Have any of you received such notice?

QUESTION:
Given the approximately 500,000 cases stuck in the IV backlog, our members’ clients are eager for information as to when they may be called for an interview and worry that their applications may have slipped through the cracks. During the February 2021 liaison meeting, the National Visa Center (NVC) noted that cases are sent to post based on post’s request and according to their capacity and case type preferences. According to the date the case became documentarily qualified, these cases are sent to post on a first-in, first out basis. Please confirm:
a. Given the burden that inquiries about case status are likely to yield, what steps, if any, is NVC taking to assure applicants that their documentarily qualified cases are still active?

ANSWER
NVC has started a pilot in which all case parties are sent an electronic notification 60 days after their case has reached documentarily complete status if the case has not been scheduled. The notification assures applicants that they don't need to take any further action, and that their case will be scheduled for interview in a first-in, first-out manner, as soon as the interviewing embassy or consulate can accommodate them. That message will be repeated every 120 days there-after until the case is scheduled.

Hey! I got an email from NVC saying my case was sent to the embassy. From there I waited a few days and used the tracking hack in Geeenbaum’s NOA2 Google doc to see when my package was delivered. Historically I usually only takes 3-4 days to arrive at the embassy once shipped. I would 100% contact the NVC if you haven’t heard anything.

I should add..they dont notify you when it arrives. You have to sort that out on your own referencing the NOA2 Google Doc.

You don't get a notification from the embassy when they have received your case, you check your status on ceac and when it says "ready" that means the embassy has received it.

The beneficiary OR the petitioner get an email from the embassy with a checklist of things to do (medical, set up an interview etc) and documents needed for the interview. Have either of you received this email? In my case the US citizen received it and forwarded it to me. Check spam folders, trash folders etc.

You can also contact the embassy if your case says "ready" and you haven't heard from them. Once "ready" your case isn't with NVC and there's no use in contacting them. It took 24 hours for my ceac status to go from "in transit" to "ready" back in 2016, should be about the same amount of time now as well.

If I remember correctly you need to check under immigrant visa, using your STK case number. The K-1 is technically not an immigrant visa, but is treated as one by the embassy.
