January 2017 I-130 (Family Petition) Filers

Got my notification by text and email today, too! Mine's going to Potomac. Does anybody know how fast they process petitions there?

Just checked Potomac Service Center's processing time and it looks like they are still processing petitions from June 12, 2016! This might be a longer wait than what I expected (but I'm still hopeful it won't take that long)  

 

Here are the current processing time for each Service Centers: (IR5 - Parent Petition)

Potomac Service Center: June 12, 2016

California Service Center: August 16, 2016

Nebraska Service Center:  July 2, 2016

Texas Service Center: July 4, 2016

Vermont Service Center: July 4, 2016

Same here, thats where my case has been routed to. Never heard of this center before. ?

Hi guys!

 

I am planning on submitting my mom's I-130 at the end of the month, but I do have some concerns. I will be studying for my MBA in Europe starting September of this year. Do you think this will be an issue? I have my uncle as a joint support, meaning my mother is staying in my uncle's place until I finish my studies. Comments, suggestions?

Is Residence in the U.S. Required for the U.S. Sponsor?

Yes. As a U.S. sponsor/petitioner, you must maintain your principal residence (also called domicile) in the United States, which is where you plan to live for the foreseeable future. Living in the U.S. is required for a U.S. sponsor to file the Affidavit of Support, with few exceptions. To learn more, review the Affidavit of Support (I-864 or I-864EZ) Instructions.

I'm not really sure how your residency will change if you're only going to Europe to study, but I'm guessing not. So I don't think it will matter. But to be on the safe side, you can call USCIS to verify.

We received the case complete mail back in 27th December. We're awating an interview. We also had N/A under AOS fee in CEAC website. But today it's changed to 'Paid'. Can someone please tell me why did this happen?

I would call USCIS or NVC, depending on what process you are in now, to verify.

Update: 01/23/17 Received the official form I-797C in the mail.

We mailed ours out on January 11th, and just got our NOA1 on the 23rd! Our case has been routed to the Potomac Service Centre. I'm so excited, but now there's nothing to do but wait.

my case went to Texas service center..i wonder why? i live in California...would have been little quicker....does this mean that it would take 6 months for the petition to just be approved, plus counselor processing and interview another 2 months probably?

I read a november filer. Her petitin was approved in less than 2 months. July filer, case closed in 4 mos..

My case went to Potomac too! Fingers crossed for a smooth process for all of us here. So I printed out form I-864 and I-864a,  filled them out with pencil just for fun lol. Making copies of our W2s and Studying NVC process step by step. I just wanted to be prepared.  And I already filed our tax return for year 2016, then soon I'll be gathering IRS transcripts from the past 3 years. I'm very excited too and so much in my mind! I just got this official NOA1 today and I found my self looking for plane tickets for my parents already ?

Haha i am just like you, I think - I've been looking at all the steps and trying to figure out the paperwork early so that it goes smoothly! 

 

I realise I am in the wrong thread though! I should be in the CR-1 Spouse filing thread. Good luck to everyone here, and I hope everything goes well for you
