You really don't hand over much information at all.  Yeah you give your Case Number, but that's it.  What can they really do with your case number?

Well, if I open the app and click on 'add case' it asks me for my case number, visa type, passport country, names, etc.

i don't know what this data might be used for, I don't really know what 'the internet' is really doing with information i provide on my social media pages either. But we all know it's happening in some kind of way I guess.

Not it trying to criticize anyone who's using the tracking app at all! Just wondering if someone has similar or different kinds of thoughts on this since I can't decide if I think it's good idea to use it or not..

Since the cases go in numerical order you can pretty much look up anyone's case number around you.  That's how the scans are being done each day.  Mine asked for the type of visa I was going for and my country.  For our names I just used our first ones.

That's interesting! Thanks for this info!

Since the whole process is being handled by embassies and the way we had to provide information about our lives the whole visa case feels like such a delicate and private matter to me. I guess that is what made me worried about the tracking.

To both of you,

When you receive your case number from the NVC, you can track it at the department of State website for Visa applications:  https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx

For K1 Visa, select "Immigrant Visa"

Enter Case Number

Enter Code

This website will track your application to the Embassy and will tell you when it is ready.  Once your status says "Ready" then that means the Embassy of your fiance's country has processed the application and you can begin filling out the online DS-160 form, paying the Visa fee, and scheduling the medical and interview.

But until it says ready, you have to wait.  In the mean time, get all the paperwork together you know you'll need.

(Someone correct me if any information I provided above is wrong, this is how I have read as how the process works.  I've yet to do it myself)

Thanks for a refresher. I actually had the page bookmarked, but with all the documents floating around, forgot about it completely.

My case is still "In Transit". Will report back when it has made it over the ocean.

lets say they do share that information to 3rd partys, wat would they be able to do with the information that you are filing a petition, the info on the case itself is already public.

Well, as I explained, the whole case does feel like something private to me. I'm not saying they might do something shady with my data but I do want to decide myself where I am sharing certain things.

I will check out the other app in the AppStore. The one I tried wouldn't let you proceed until you filled out everything they asked for.

If you're really worried about this, then the USCIS case tracking page is your safest bet. No need to download an app and share any other info other than your case number. You will have to manually check your case status, though, unlike if you use the app where you can set it to check your case status up to 4 times a day and to alert you when there's a change in the status.

I'm an Android user but if you're using the same app I'm using then maybe it won't be too different. The one I'm using is "USCIS Case Status" by Spinach Mobile LLC.

When you open the app (assuming you've already saved your case number), you'll be directed to the default tab, which is titled LOOKUP CASE. You'll see other tabs to its right. Just swipe that red bar of tabs to the right til you see SETTINGS. It should be the last one to the right.

Tap the SETTINGS tab and scroll down to the end and you should see the option to turn on case status notifications as well as the option to check twice or 4 times a day.

My apologies about the huge screenshots. :P

Thank you for sharing the screen shots for the USCIS case status app.
For Apple users under the Notification Settings we only have the category "visa bulletin". I don't have the option to make it check 2/4 times a day :(
Any Apple users seeing anything different?
