Hi, I just received my NOA2 approval letter and it says that they have forwarded it to the consulate in Santo Domingo and if I have any questions to contact the consulate. I was under the impression that it will have to go to the NVC first to obtain a case number. My question is, can I have my fiancé start the visa process in Santo Domingo now or do I need any information from NVC before contacting the consulate?

My letter said the same thing! So did I skip the whole NVC section? Do I not need a case number now? My fiancé is in Jamaica

You didn't skip the NVC, it will make a quick pit stop there first.  I think all NOA2 letters don't mention the NVC step.

Just curious... do any of you have a tentative wedding date? Any wedding plans made?

We have the church reserved for December 16th, but are hoping that it can be sooner than that - maybe as soon as October. My pastor knows that the date might need to move because of the visa and his arrival. I have my dress and have started to buy a few decorations. My friends and I are having a planning party next week to get the details nailed down. Our goal is to be "ready" to go with about a 2-3 month notice (we won't be waiting until day 90 to get married; probably about 30-45 days after he arrives). I have a very small family, all of whom live out of town, so it will be a small wedding.

Anyone else?

My fiance is also from India! We have a tentative date of Jan 27th for our wedding here. I booked with a place where it's super flexible so if I need to re-schedule the date I won't lose my deposit. I just hope and pray that he will be here by then. I'm holding off on any more planning right now because I'm way too stressed with work, school, and the waiting for an NOA2. I've been crying like a baby the last few nights and feeling like I just want to give up on waiting and move there to be with him now. Only thing keeping me here through this wait is knowing how difficult it will be for me to re-establish back in the states if I moved there for awhile. I followed you so I can see your progress. You filed a month before me so will give me motivation once you get approved! :)

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man.... Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."

I completely understand about being emotional! Both of us have been emotional, too. We spent many hours with one another on WhatsApp and Skype, trying to reassure one another. I was just in India to see him last month and the thought of staying with him was in the back of my mind the whole time. With the cost of the flight, we've decided that it is just too expensive for me to go see him again before he moves here. :( We keep telling one another that this time of separation will make us stronger in our marriage and it's only a short time compared to the rest of our lives together.

I think your tentative date in January is realistic, at least from what I've been seeing on VJ. Will you be able to visit before he comes?

Same here! Our new thing lately now that he finally got a new phone is to sit on the phone together watching the same movie on Netflix/youtube. Sometimes we just sit in silence and make comments/laugh throughout the movie but it's nice because it gives us the feeling of watching it together.

I totally can relate to the cost of the flight being too expensive to visit. I went in October and in January both times for about 10 days-2 weeks. I can make another trip happen this year, but I really wanted it to be once he gets his visa. Then we would have an official engagement ceremony (to please his parents, since our 1st wedding will be here in the states) and can travel back here to the states together. He's never even been outside of India and it's so exhausting to do the travelling round-trip alone, so waiting to visit again until he can come back with me works out best for both of us.

I also thought the same about just staying there. But the sad thing is, even for us to go to India/stay there instead it would be difficult. The visa part is a pain though not as complicated/difficult, but marriage takes a 30 day waiting period and even after getting married it's 2 years before I would be able to get the resident card to legally work there. We wanted to just get married while I was there in January, but didn't know about the 30 day waiting period until I was already there. :(

I think the waiting would be easier if there was a guarantee of him getting the visa, but I'm an over-thinker who worries too much about what-if's. I just hate the idea that our future is completely in the hands of random people who have never even met us. Positive thoughts and prayers is all we can do though! And at least we are all in this together!

Drum roll please.............  (Because we overlapped into January filers too)

It is with great excitement that after 111 days of craziness, we got the RFE notice today! So on to the approval..

I know not "officially approved"  but usually its something we can answer or provide and will get approved right? I have no idea just yet what they want, but surely we can get it right back to them and will get approval. If I get proof right away and it  sent back in we should be "officially approved"  in 2-3 weeks!!!!!  I kept telling Grace, "Just give me an approved or RFE  text and we will get through this, I know it!"

YES YES YES YES !!!!!!!!  And yes she is jumping for joy up and down!!!!

Now to get the RFE sent back in,  and in 1 1/2 - 2 months from approval, (HK is fast) Grace will be here!!!!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to everyone putting up with us...

And to others, dream big, hang in there, you CAN do this too..

Congrats!  You had a long wait but you finally got peace of mind the petition is being worked on.  Sooner you get that RFE info back the better, and thankfully once the USCIS receives the RFE info you will jump right to the beginning of the line and be approved.

I'm quite curious what kind of things cause an RFE.  When you find out will you share it with us?  I'm thinking maybe the RFE hiccup is probably what caused the longer than average delay for you.

Congrats again and good luck!

Also, quick question.  Someone else in this thread said they send out Approvals and RFE's between 9-11 PM EST.  Did you get your RFE today?  How did you get it?  Since you definitely seem to have gotten it before 9 PM EST.  If you put your receipt number in the USCIS Case Status website does it say RFE?  Because that would mean they update throughout the day, not just at night.

I'm just curious, as I keep refreshing that website :)

So it's pouring in Dallas. It has been such a gloomy day all around and it is making this wait more unbearable. I was so depressed today that I called USCIS and depressed myself even more. The lady told me that there could be another 3 month wait and I lost it. I cried to my fiance for a good hour and felt a little bit better. I hope they get all all of us soon because every day gets harder and harder...

That's just their standard response they tell everybody.  I wouldn't read too much into it.

You're not due up for another 2 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about it yet.  You're still in line behind the people who got in first.  Don't worry you haven't reached the average time yet, nothing is wrong or taking long with your petition.  All is good :)
