Pheeew! US Embassy Kazakhstan site has the checklist as a pdf and that states "over 12 months".

Thank you @glmg21!!

Pleasure. This place is a goldmine of information but with so many people applying from all over the world, the requirements tend to vary quite a bit and it's best to just check with the embassy for the most accurate steps!

Guys, theres 2 different rules at play here! The link that @p-ana is quoting says you need police certificate from all countries (except country of birth, and current residence) youve lived for more than 12 months.

@Dorian Mouezys link says every country youve lived in for more than 6 months.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? This is really important for me, because I was an exchange student in Hong Kong for 10 months, and have NOT gotten a police certificate from China.

EDIT: @p-anas link also specifically says you do not need to get a police certificate from the US if youve lived there, where as @Dorian Mouezys does not state that.

I am confused too. The link I provided is for the "Nonimmigrant Visa for a Fiancé(e) (K-1)",  whereas the link p-ana gave is for the immigrant visa process, but apparently it applies for us too??? But as Miina said they state two very different things

You're right it's 16, sorry! Where did you see you don't need one from the US?

@Dorian Mouezy

These links are correct  but if you would like to know your country-specific interview requirements/checklist, here is the direct link for that:

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare.html

Just select your country from the drop-down under STEP 2 and a pdf file will appear. Here's a sample of mine (Manila, Philippines):

https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/MNL - Manila.pdf

You'll find basically everything you need to know before you schedule your interview, including a step-by-step instruction and your pre-interview checklist, which includes the police certificate requirement for your country.

Example (Philippines):

Also,

Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.

USCIS has access to all needed law enforecement databases and will do a query as a part of the process.

I hope this helps.

My fiance was in the USA between the ages of 4 and 12 years old.  She's 21 now.

She was with her parents, obviously at that age, when she came into the USA.  The parents overstayed their Visa by a lot, which made her overstay her visa as a child.  As mentioned, when she was 12 years old, she returned to Colombia.  I just hope the USCIS databases have the info at their disposal to see she was a minor/child back then and she left at 12 years old and been out of the country ever since.  This is my biggest fear, that somehow the USCIS will delay or RFE this part of her life or something.  It's the one sticking point that scares me.  She even has a social security number.  I hope it's not an issue and the USCIS does have the records to see the truth.

I'm pretty sure that won't be an issue since your fiance was under sixteen years of age back then. I know how all this wait can make anyone paranoid, so I won't blame you for feeling worried. We're all going through the same torture. :P

Tomorrow is day 90 since received date for me, and I really understand your feeling... I knew the journey would be long when we started the process but I didn't think it would take that long ...

I know some others have been waiting for much longer but I can't help but feeling very impatient and sad about how long it takes... especially knowing once we have our NOA2 it's far from being done :(

This forum has been a true help but it's so hard to just sit and wait... especially with everyone around asking when I'll be able to finally be with my fiancé. Not knowing when is just killing me.

I had a look at the December fillers forum and there are so many applications that need to be looked at still :/ it kinda made me feel discouraged

You're right. I keep getting confused on which dates to go by. Shows up in the scans as 1-4-17, and it's actually been in their system for 99 days now, so that's the number stuck in my head.

You are almost there.  So am I.  My NOA1 was 1-11-17.  So I'm hoping, going by pure averages, that my petition will be approved on day 94 which would be next Monday the 17th of May.  So maybe the 18th for your petition.

Thing is, that 94 days may keep creeping up :(  Regardless, we are very close!

We all got to hang on, it will all be worth the wait! Especially spending a lifetime with someone you love ^_^

I'm at 86 days since my NOA1 and 92 days since they received it, because I also work for the government I wonder if they will have the day off of Friday like I do... i would be more than happy to work Friday if i know USCIS will work too..
