You need a police clearance for every country you lived in more than 6 month pass the age of 18! For the US, it's processed by the FBI and for some reasons the processing time is pretty long.

It's 16 and up and you don't need one from the US

You're right it's 16, sorry! Where did you see you don't need one from the US?

Hey you, my NOA1 is January 23rd and I'm from Germany. Did you got approved before the estimate time that the visa journey 'told' you? I'm just trying to figure out if I'll hear from them end of April like the visa journey says since a lot of Germans in our forum got approved from January ..

Hi there

I received my noa2 approval about a week earlier then estimated. I file d January 3rd. Also I'm from Canada.

I posted the link of travel.state.gov above. The requirements are for immigrant visas but it's the same for the k1. They already do background checks on the petitioner and beneficiary during the i129f/ k1 process, so they don't need the beneficiary to go and get a "police certificate"

your timeline says you're from Armenia, their PDF doc about docs required for interview also state the same https://www.usa.am/pdf/k1k32016.pdf

NOA2 on the 5th this month! Sorry for the late update! Been crazy busy this past week! Got the I-797 in the mail yesterday. Figured I'd give it at least a week before contacting NVC.

My noa2 was on the 3rd but didn't get the letter until a few days after. Should I wait to get the packet or should my fiancé call the nvc?

Guys, theres 2 different rules at play here! The link that @p-ana is quoting says you need police certificate from all countries (except country of birth, and current residence) youve lived for more than 12 months.

@Dorian Mouezys link says every country youve lived in for more than 6 months.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? This is really important for me, because I was an exchange student in Hong Kong for 10 months, and have NOT gotten a police certificate from China.

EDIT: @p-anas link also specifically says you do not need to get a police certificate from the US if youve lived there, where as @Dorian Mouezys does not state that.

One thing that is certain is that you don't need/can't get a police certificate for your time in the US. They are already capable of running a reliable background check on visa applicants who have previously lived there by scanning US criminal databases.

As for police certificate validity from different countries, and whether you need one or not, my advice would be to only use the packet 3 info given by the embassy or consulate through which you have applied. They are the ones who will review your documents so follow their checklist!

Pheeew! US Embassy Kazakhstan site has the checklist as a pdf and that states "over 12 months".

Thank you @glmg21!!
